Elizabeth Olsen's Wanda Maximoff has been an integral part of the MCU's Phase 4 so far, with the character finally transitioning into the Scarlet Witch in WandaVision before making her terrifying big screen return in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. While the Infinity Saga and WandaVision already showcased Wanda's backstory, there are still missing details about the character's past, such as her true parents.

In Marvel Comics, Wanda is the daughter of Magneto. However, given that the MCU has yet to properly introduce the X-Men and specifically Magneto, details about the true heritage of Olsen's Scarlet Witch are still being kept under wraps. Despite that, the actress expressed her desire to be involved when the franchise finally introduced the super-team.

Now, the MCU veteran opened up about the possibility of seeing Magneto in the franchise's future.

Elizabeth Olsen sat down with Geek Culture to talk about all things Wanda Maximoff and her dream pick for the actor who could portray the MCU's Magneto.

When asked about her choice between Sir Ian McKellen and Michael Fassbender to portray Wanda's on-screen father, Magneto, Olsen chose the original X-Men star, admitting that she "had the biggest crush on him:"

Geek Culture: "If you had the choice, who would be your daddy of choice? Would it be Sir Ian McKellan or Michael Fassbender?

Olsen: "Oh... [laughs] I’m gonna go with Sir Ian McKellen. I had the biggest crush on him. He’s in these videos called Playing Shakespeare where actors get together and they do a Shakespeare… It’s a video series. He’s like the sexiest man in the world so I would say Sir Ian McKellen."

McKellen responded to Olsen's comment via a post on Facebook, saying that it would be "a treat to be her Daddy:"

"If I had a daughter, I’d hope she’d be like Elizabeth. A treat to be her Daddy!"

When Will Magneto Make His MCU Debut?

Ian McKellen delivered a compelling performance as Magneto throughout a plethora of X-Men films, as his version is one of the more recognizable portrayals for fans. The fact that Elizabeth Olsen chose the veteran actor over Michael Fassbender shows that she grew up watching the original X-Men trilogy, which is on top of her admission that the actor is her celebrity crush.

It is unknown if McKellen will follow in the footsteps of his X-Men co-star Patrick Stewart in a potential Marvel return, but everything is possible now that the MCU is exploring the Multiverse. The actor's response could simply be a fun nod to the actress' pick, but this could also serve as a signal for Marvel Studios to explore the idea of his possible return.

There's a strong chance that the MCU will find a new actor to portray Magneto, but there could be ways of paying tribute to McKellen. In the vast Multiverse, it's likely that there is an alternate universe out there where McKellen's Magneto is the father of Olsen's Wanda Maximoff.

Whatever the case, this exchange between the two notable Marvel stars is a significant interaction that would please MCU fans everywhere.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is now playing in theaters worldwide.
