Production is about start on Taika Waititi's Thor: Love and Thunder , the Marvel Cinematic Universe's major start-of-summer release of 2022. Coming as the first fourth solo film for any hero in the MCU, Chris Hemsworth is set to take on an absolutely insane new solo film alongside a handful of high-powered co-stars as they team-up to take on Christian Bale's Gorr the God Butcher .

The movie's cast is littered with notable female heroes such as Natalie Portman's Jane Foster/Mighty Thor, Jamie Alexander's Lady Sif , and Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie as they travel to undisclosed locations throughout the galaxy. Other than the confirmation that Portman's Jane will be wielding Mjolnir, no specific plot details have been revealed, but they may be on the way with filming set to start in early 2021.

Tessa Thompson recently gave her own timeline as to when her work on her next MCU movie will begin, while also diving into the area of music as it pertains to this new MCU film.

NEWS

In a new interview with MTV News , Valkyrie actress Tessa Thompson revealed that she has started working on Thor: Love and Thunder and will fly to Australia in "a couple weeks" to begin production.

This will be her third time playing Valkyrie in the MCU after appearances in Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Endgame , and her excitement is growing to get back into character.

"I’ve started [working on the film], it’s really really really fun. It’s very very very good. I’m really excited. I fly to Australia in a couple weeks, and folks are already there and on the ground. I get very funny videos from Taika [Waititi] and photographs updating me. It’s a great script. It’s going to be really fun. It’s very fun in the music department. It’s a good one, I’m thrilled.

Thompson specifically notes that the film is "very fun in the music department." Given that the film's score hasn't yet been recorded, Thompson's quote indicates that she's been made aware, either via the script or through her conversations with director Taika Waititi, of what new songs will be featured in the movie.

The Valkyrie actress was also asked if her character will find more love or thunder in this movie, to which she excitedly claimed "there's both!" :

There’s both! They’re not mutually exclusive. She likes kind of the thunderous love.

WHAT THIS MEANS

Thompson's mention of how "fun" the film is in the music department should signal another round of classic hits coming in Thor: Love and Thunder , especially after Taika Waititi gave new life to Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song" through both the promotional tour and release of Thor: Ragnarok . There are no signals pointing to any specific songs that will be used, but fans will be looking forward to Waititi's picks of musical artists and tracks.

Waititi, Chris Hemsworth and Christian Bale have all been settled down in Australia for some time in preparation for filming on this sequel, and all indications point to the rest of the core cast joining them in the next few weeks. No specific start date has been reported for the beginning of production, but it will be sometime shortly after 2021 arrives.

Even though no intricate plot details have been released to the public yet, this is set to be a massive team-up epic as Natalie Portman's Jane Foster finds herself worthy to wield the mighty hammer Mjolnir, all while Thor and the Guardians of the Galaxy are recovering from the events of Avengers: Endgame . Thompson's Valkyrie is still hanging onto the mantle of King of Asgard, and multiple aspects of her story are set to evolve and progress as she teams up with the Asgardians, Guardians, and more in this intergalactic journey.

Thor: Love and Thunder will begin filming in January 2021 and is preparing for release for May 6, 2022.
