The CW Is Bringing a New Superman to DC's Naomi

CW Superman Naomi

While 2021 was a huge year for comic book fans, 2022 has a real chance to top it. In addition to Marvel's upcoming slate of Disney+ series and films, the DCEU is set to explore its own Multiverse and bring not one - but three - Batmen to the big screen. For those wondering why Superman isn't getting his due, the Man of Steel is still a focus on The CW in a brand-new series titled Naomi

Set to premiere on January 11, 2022, Naomi is a new series inspired by the DC Comics character created in 2019 by Brian Michael Bendis, David F. Walker, and Jamal Campbell which follows teenage comic-book fangirl Naomi McDuffie who discovers her own super abilities.

Developed by director Ava DuVernay and Jill Blankenship, Naomi is expected to not only delve into the Multiverse but also have its heroine cross paths with the Man of Steel himself. The question, however, is which Superman will she meet?

When asked by Good Day Sacramento whether the Superman in Naomi is the same as The CW's Superman and LoisKaci Walfall who plays Naomi explained that her new series exists "in her own universe" while also teasing her show's "take on Superman, especially in the first episode."

"I think that Naomi exists in her own universe, so Tyler Hoechlin who plays Superman in Superman and Lois was not on the set; but I'm excited for fans to see that take on Superman, especially in the first episode."

While Naomi's comic book backstory parallels that of Superman, he won't be the only hero she encounters. It's expected that her character will be able to connect to the Arrowverse, especially since Arrow's own Jill Blankenship is involved.

What Naomi Can Offer Superman Fans

Considering Batman is currently Warner Bros.' big-screen focus, and with Henry Cavill's future as Superman up in the air, it looks like The CW is where DC fans will have to go for a Superman story for the time being.

Fortunately, The CW's Naomi sounds like it has the potential to better connect the network's existing series and potentially explore new perspectives of Superman's origin alongside her own.

Walfall's Naomi should be a breath of fresh air for The CW. While it's true that she's yet another superpowered teen in the lineup, she's also a superhero fan with her own blog who might be more akin to her audience than her potential Arrowverse peers.

Therefore, her interactions with Superman are sure to be fun to watch and - similar to Superman and Louis - may allow audiences to see The Last Son of Krypton in a whole new light.

Naomi is set to debut on The CW on January 11, 2022.
