The wait is finally over and Star Wars fans have gotten a proper taste of what Obi-Wan Kenobi will be like when it hits Disney+ on May 25. The first official still image was recently released of Ewan McGregor back in his Jedi robes, shortly followed by the long-awaited teaser trailer. The first footage featured multiple shots of Kenobi, but the main focus was on Darth Vader's Inquisitors that were previously seen in Star Wars: Rebels and Jedi: Fallen Order.
It was already confirmed that the Grand Inquisitor would be making his live-action debut in the series, portrayed by Rupert Friend. The teaser provided viewers with multiple shots of him, along with Moses Ingram's Third Sister and Sung Kang's Fifth Brother.
It has been reported that the Inquisitors will display a shocking level of brutality when it comes to hunting Jedi. As seen in Rebels and Fallen Order, the former Jedi have no boundaries and will use whatever means necessary to accomplish their task.
One of the most important locations in Jedi: Fallen Order was Fortress Inquisitorius. It serves as the headquarters for Vader's Inquisitors, and a large portion of the game's climax takes place in the stronghold. The Obi-Wan Kenobi trailer may have been more revealing than fans thought it would be, as it seems viewers will venture to the location for the first time in live-action.
Fortress Inquisitorius in the Obi-Wan Kenobi Teaser
Fortress Inquisitorius was a location introduced in the video game, Jedi: Fallen Order. The base is located on the water moon Nur, and it was built not only as a central hub for Darth Vader's Inquisitors but also as a prison to hold Jedi.
In the teaser trailer for Obi-Wan Kenobi, a quick glimpse of a fortress can be seen in two shots. Star Wars recently confirmed that this is in fact Fortress Inquisitorius, marking the first live-action appearance of the stronghold, as well as the water moon Nur.
A brief shot from the teaser features an Inquisitor's ship flying toward Fortress Inquisitorius. The surrounding area is made up of only water, staying true to its location in Jedi: Fallen Order:
Another shot also appeared in the footage from inside the base. It featured Raya, or the Third Sister, interacting with the Fifth Brother and another Inquisitor. When looking at the windows on the far side of the room, it appears that they are completely underwater:
Even though the entire stronghold wasn't revealed in the teaser, it is safe to assume that it will look extremely similar, if not exactly the same as it did in Fallen Order:
The Inquisitors' Mission
Prior to the release of the teaser, rumors suggested that the Inquisitors would be actively hunting Obi-Wan in the upcoming series. However, for a Jedi as important as Kenobi, many speculated that Darth Vader would seek his former master out himself, as the Empire could not afford to make any mistakes.
In Star Wars: Rebels, Vader was a recurring character across the majority of the first two seasons. However, he didn't appear too often, and mostly left the matter to his trusted Inquisitors, more specifically, the Grand Inquisitor. When Ezra and Kanan defeated the Grand Inquisitor, which resulted in his death, it got Vader's attention, and he began to go after him personally.
Obi-Wan Kenobi will likely follow a similar format as Rebels. At the beginning of the series, the Empire hears about a Jedi that has exiled himself on Tatooine, and Vader will send the Inquisitors to hunt him down. When Kenobi gets the better of a few of the former Jedi, he gets Vader's attention, and that is when the long-awaited rematch between the two will take place.
As the release date for the first episode nears, theories and speculation will only continue to go through the roof. It is unclear what will happen next in terms of promotion, but fans now have their first look at the upcoming Disney+ series, as well as some well-known locations like Fortress Inquisitorius.
Obi-Wan Kenobi premieres on Disney+ on May 25.
