One of the most mysterious movies set to hit theaters in Phase 4 is The Eternals. Despite the occasional leaks, details about the film have been heavily guarded. While not much is known, fans are speculating the film will be similar to 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy because of their cosmic-scale characters. Peter Quill and company introduced fans to the space side of the MCU, and it appears that this new team of heroes is set to explore the ancient history of this vast universe . Reports have circled about the film including pivotal moments in the MCU's history, including the sinking of Namor's home world of Atlantis . New reports now suggest the inclusion of two of the universe's strongest beings, Arishem and Kro.
NEWS
A new Funko list for The Eternals has surfaced on Twitter, via @Eternalsnews. The list includes numerous characters already confirmed to be appearing in the film, such as Richard Madden's Ikaris and Angelina Jolie's Thena; however, the familiar names are not what are making the headlines. Included on the list are Arishem and Kro, two unconfirmed villainous characters who have has allegiances with the Celestials and Deviants, respectively.
WHAT THIS MEANS
While Funko lists have been known to decieve before (a Funko Pop for Grey Hulk was released ahead of Avengers: Age of Ultron despite the character never making that transformation in the movie), the inclusion of Arishem and Kro lines up with what The Eternals seems to be going for. Both characters are other-wordly beings that have been around for centuries.
In the comics, Kro has had affiliation with the Deviants, the rumored antagonists of the film. Kro is a shapeshifting warlord that has had run-ins with Thor and the Fantastic Four in past comic publications. The more intriguing of the two is Arishem, due to his connection to the Celestials. The Celestials have been hinted at in the MCU before, most notably in the Guardians of the Galaxy films. Fans will recognize the location Knowhere as the home of The Collector, but what may not be known is that the location is actually a severed head of a past celestial. More specifically, Peter Quill's father, Ego the Living Planet, confirmed himself to be a celestial in 2017's Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 .
Arishem's inclusion in this Funko list continues Marvel's long-running trend of sprinkling Celestials into their cosmic films. All Celestials have different roles, and Arishem's purpose is that of fatal implications: judging whether or not a planet will live or die. Arishem's Funko is listed as being 10 inches, which Funko Pop collectors will recognize as the size given to larger characters such as Thanos and Surtur, so it looks like the latest Celestial will be in tune with the size of his fellow beings.
The Eternals is set to hit theaters on November 6, 2020.
