The last time fans saw Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury, it was for a post-credits scene for Spider-Man: Far From Home, where it was revealed that he was never on Earth to begin with and that Talos had taken his spot on Earth for some time. Fans have been wondering when they’ll be able to catch up with the character once again. The answer? Secret Invasion.

The upcoming show is a mysterious project by Marvel Studios, one that will not only bring back familiar faces such as Cobie Smulders’s Maria Hill and Ben Mendelsohn but also several new players as well. Among those fresh faces are Emilia Clarke, Olivia Coleman, and Christopher McDonald.

Another returning character who was revealed from set photos was Don Cheadle’s War Machine, which was confirmed due to some newspaper clippings showing him shaking the hands of the President of the United States. This will be the first time the character has been on screen since his brief appearance in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

Now, Jackson commented not only on Cheadle as an actor but also how the two actually shared scenes on the upcoming Disney+ project.

In an interview with the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, via The Playlist, Secret Invasion actor Samuel L. Jackson, who plays Nick Fury, commented on sharing scenes with Don Cheadle aka War Machine.

The actor exclaimed how “[they’d] never worked together,” but thanks to the upcoming Disney+ series, they finally were able to:

“C’mon, man, you walk on the set, Emilia’s amazing… Ben Mendelsohn, he’s awesome. Don, Don Cheadle… I got Don, that’s my golf buddy. I didn’t realize it, but til we did this thing, I was like, ‘We’ve never worked together.’ We just kinda know each other, hang out and laugh… but we’d never worked together, and we finally [got to work together].”

Nicky Fury Brings People Together

With how long both Samuel L. Jackson and Don Cheadle have been in the MCU, it is strange to think the two have never shared the screen at any point. Though, to be fair, Nick Fury hasn’t been utilized all that much since 2012’s Avengers, as well as 2019’s Captain Marvel––though his role in the Carol Danvers tale took place entirely in the past.

It’s not surprising to hear that Cheadle is going to be showing up in Secret Invasion for more than just a cameo in a newspaper. With the show playing as a political thriller in certain aspects, most known government agents in the MCU at this point are likely set to make an appearance of some sort.

Another example of this would be Martin Freeman, who was recently casually confirmed by Jackson as well. So who else may fans see? Well, the next biggest suit fans know would be Randall Park’s Jimmy Woo, who was last seen in WandaVision—maybe his magic tricks will save him from being Skrull’d.

As for War Machine and Nick Fury, the two are most likely going to be joined together by the invasion of the Skrulls. Even more likely is that the two of them will be at each other's throats out of suspicion. There’s no way fans make it out of the show without a familiar face being revealed as the enemy.

Secret Invasion will start streaming on Disney+ in 2023.
