2 Major MCU Characters Interact In Leaked Set Photos From Disney+'s Secret Invasion

For its inaugural year on Disney+, Marvel Studios churned out four live-action series based around familiar MCU characters, such as Wanda and Vision to Loki to Hawkeye. For 2022 and beyond, however, Marvel Disney+ shows are set to focus on new heroes, like She-Hulk, Ms. Marvel, and Moon Knight. The one exception? The long-awaited Secret Invasion starring Samuel L. Jackson. 

Following the events of Captain Marvel and Spider-Man: Far From Home, Secret Invasion is expected to explore the MCU's Skrull infiltration and the working relationship between Ben Mendelsohn's Skrull Talos and Jackson's Nick Fury, along with Cobie Smulders' Maria Hill.

Recent photos and videos from the set of Secret Invasion already revealed Jackson's new look for Nick Fury, a battle-worn Cobie Smulders, and Mendelsohn in human form; and now, yet another new photo has been released showing two of the upcoming series stars together. 

New Secret Invasion Photos Feature Two MCU Stars

Twitter user @SInvasionNews posted photos of Secret Invasion's Cobie Smulders and Ben Mendelsohn interacting on set together during the filming of the upcoming Disney+ series.

Once again, Mendelsohn appears to be playing the human form of his character as he's not sporting any Skrull facial prosthetics. The question, however, is whether he's talking to Smulders' Maria Hill or his wife, Soren, who has taken the form of Hill - similar to how she did in Spider-Man: Far From Home.

The Secrecy Surrounding Secret Invasion

Marvel Studios has been laying the groundwork for Secret Invasion for quite some time, and the Spider-Man: Far From Home twist in which Fury and Hill were actually Talos and Soren is only a glimpse of what fans can expect from this show. 

While it looks like Mendelsohn will have the opportunity to play both his Skrull and human self, he won't be the only one; and part of the appeal of the show is learning just who in the MCU has been a Skrull all along. 

While the series stars MCU vets like Jackson, Mendelsohn, and Smulders, they will be joined by Marvel newcomers Olivia Colman and Emilia Clarke in their respective MCU debuts. Although, just who they're both playing in this show remains unknown.

Among Secret Invasion's many questions and mysteries is when it's expected to debut. At one time, it was expected to be released in late 2022, but new evidence suggests that 2023 is more likely. Perhaps this is to coincide with the Captain Marvel sequel - The Marvels - which moved from its November 2022 slot to February of 2023?

Hopefully, more about this truly secret series will come to light as filming continues and the MCU moves deeper into its Phase 4 slate.

Secret Invasion is expected to release on Disney+ sometime in 2023.
