Power couple James Gunn and Jennifer Holland have enjoyed an incredible run of years both personally and professionally. On top of getting engaged in February, the two played key roles in DC's The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker, with Gunn directing and writing both while Holland played Emilia Harcourt. Now, Gunn is deep in preparations to return to the MCU with multiple Guardians of the Galaxy projects.
Continuing the group's live-action story with both The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special on Disney+ and next year's Vol. 3 in theaters, Gunn has plenty of work left on what could be his final run with the team. He's also bringing new high-profile cast members into the fray, such as Peacemaker's Chukwudi Iwuji, and rumors have teased that it doesn't stop there.
A few days ago, Gunn shared images celebrating the end of filming for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 - one of which included Holland and indicated that she may play a role in the Guardians franchise. Now, ever ready to correct any misinformation about his work, Gunn has taken to social media to set the record straight on his fiancé's status in the MCU.
Gunn Sets Record Straight on Holland in MCU
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 director James Gunn clarified a rumor about Jennifer Holland joining the MCU in a new post on Twitter.
A report from a couple of days ago noted that Holland was confirmed for a role in the Guardians threequel after seeing her in the post about the movie finishing filming, although Gunn denied that to be the case. However, he took some of the blame as well, saying that he worded the post poorly when he initially released it.
"I actually didn’t confirm that, but I have to partially take the blame. I realized the moment I posted the photo my tweet was horribly worded."
Gunn Takes Blame for Fan Assumption with Holland
With Gunn being so active on social media, particularly with potential teases for his upcoming work, it was easy to see how things got off track with the reports about Jennifer Holland joining the MCU. After all, he included her in a picture with MCU star Zoe Saldaña while talking about an unannounced actor in the caption of said picture.
This time, the director made it clear that he didn't include the best wording with the image, which led fans to believe he was announcing something that he didn't mean to announce. This seems to put a lid on anything regarding Holland taking on a role in a second comic book movie universe, although she certainly knows everything that's going on with it, working so closely with Gunn.
While Holland's future is clarified, there are still plenty of questions regarding the cast of Gunn's upcoming Marvel projects, especially with Chukwudi Iwuji and Will Poulter already in tow for the upcoming threequel. Now that the film is just under a year from debuting in theaters, the rumors will only increase in quantity as Gunn completes the necessary post-production work on his stories.
The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special will debut on Disney+ in the 2022 holiday season, while Vol. 3 is set for release on May 5, 2023.
