The Marvel Studios train has once again started back up, with Oscar Isaac's Moon Knight in full swing. With two installments out already, fans aren't even halfway through the madness of Steven Grant, Marc Spector, and the Egyptian God of the Moon himself, Khonshu. This new series is one of only a handful of Marvel projects that directly deals with Gods within the MCU. One of the more recent projects in the same boat was Tom Hiddleston's Loki.

On the surface, one wouldn't think that Moon Knight or Loki would have many any connections with each other—besides the obvious of them both being associated with Gods. Other than that, the two seem fairly far removed from each other.

Steven Grant and Marc Spector are just a normal, everyday person cursed with the duty of being a God's Avatar, while Loki is a powerful God himself, with no one to answer to. So what further connection could these two possibly have? Well, Moon Knight and Loki directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead have an answer for that.

Loki's Outcast Connection With Moon Knight

In an interview with Collider, Marvel Studios' Moon Knight directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead were asked about how their new project, Loki Season 2, is progressing.

Moorhead admitted that "[they're] still kind of... processing being handed that job," but hope to "take all of the lessons that [they] learned" and apply it to the sophomore run of Tom Hiddleston's Disney+ show:

"I mean, we're still kind of even processing being handed that job. But I suppose what we can say about it is that we're really, really proud of what we've done on Moon Knight. I think that Marvel really likes what we're able to do on Moon Knight. And so we're hoping to kind of take all the lessons that we learned, which are infinite, the unbelievable amount of life experience, and craft, and art that we made in Moon Knight. And we want to take all of that and kind of bundle it back together as we lead Loki."

Benson weighed in, mentioning how "it's... nice to be tackling another character in the MCU who is defined by being [an outcast]," and that "[Moon Knight and Loki] have [a unqiue] complexity" because of how their characters are viewed by society:

"Also, it's also nice to be tackling another character in the MCU who is defined by being different than the rest of the pack and [another outcast]... They all have complexity, but these two have complexity in being outcasts, and there's something about that that feels very special and an honor to tackle."

What's Next For Tom Hiddleston's Loki

The directors aren't wrong when they point out the similarity between Oscar Isaac's Moon Knight and Tom Hiddleston's Loki. Steven Grant and Marc Spector are outcasts in even their own heads, while also having to bear the weight of a Khonshu as they navigate daily life.

Hiddleston's Loki may be more at peace with his own thoughts, but everywhere else, he doesn't feel like he belongs. His Disney+ series is the first time he reached any level of comfort, having met Sylvie and experienced multiple versions of himself across the Multiverse.

Given the positive reception that Moon Knight has been receiving, fans should feel optimistic about the future of Loki. But what does that future even look like? Last time audiences were with the God of Mischief, everything had gone completely haywire with the death of He Who Remains.

Benson and Moorhead must have had quite the adventure catching up and figuring out how to deal with all of those dangling plot threads. What's with this new TVA? How many TVAs are there now? What even is their purpose now that there is no Sacred Timeline to protect?

With how insane the first season got, one can only imagine that Season 2 will only aim to best that. Even more important is, if these six new episodes are out after Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, then Jonathan Majors' Kang the Conqueror proper may even factor into the plot in a massive way.

Moon Knight is now streaming on Disney+, while Loki's second season is set to go into production this summer for a likely release in 2023. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania hits theaters worldwide on July 28, 2023.
