Marvel Studios’ access to the wonderful tool that is Disney+ has enriched the Marvel Cinematic Universe in ways many thought was impossible. Characters who would never have received the spotlight or even made it on screen have now had the chance to shine. Many people thought there would be over-saturation, but the viewership of shows like WandaVision or Loki would say otherwise.

It also helps that the studios’ many projects are of quality. Each one generally received favorable reviews throughout their runs and positive impressions from fans.

The two most popular ones were, no doubt, Elizabeth Olsen’s transformation into the Scarlet Witch and Tom Hiddleston’s journey through the  Multiverse. Both shows were the king of weekly conversations amongst the internet while airing.

They haven’t gone unnoticed when it comes to award potential either, as WandaVision previously won Emmys.

Now it looks like both shows are up for more recognition by another ceremony: the WGA Awards.

Marvel’s WandaVision and Loki Get Nominations

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, The Writer’s Guild of America (WGA) Awards have announced their nominations, and Marvel Studios scored a few spots.

Out of all its projects last year, only Loki and WandaVision scored nominations, with Tom Hiddleston’s show coming out on top in two different categories.

Loki earned a nomination for Best Written Drama Series, alongside Hulu’s The Handmaiden’s Tale, Apple TV+’s The Morning Show, HBO’s Succession, and Showtime’s Yellowjackets.

Tom Hiddleston’s Disney+ outing also scored a nomination in the Best New Series category, joined by HBO’s Hacks, Hulu’s Only Murders In The Building, FX’s Reservation Dogs, and Showtime’s Yellowjackets.

For the Best Adapted Long Form project, WandaVision made the cut, as did Netflix’s Halston, FX’s Impeachment: American Crime Story, Netflix’s Maid, and Amazon Prime’s The Underground Railroad.

Do Wanda and Loki Stand a Chance?

Many know about the assumed superhero bias the Oscars (and the Academy behind them) holds, something that keeps these big blockbusters from getting anything further than a nomination nine times out of ten—with only a handful ever having won.

Worrying about that elsewhere would be a valid concern, but it seems that other award ceremonies aren’t so closed off. A good example is the Emmys, as mentioned earlier. WandaVision won for Outstanding Production Design, Outstanding Fantasy/Sci-Fi Costumes, and the famous song “Agatha All Along.”

If Loki takes home any awards, it would be a first for the show. Given the talent behind the scenes, the series definitely deserves some recognition.

As for the rest of Marvel Studios’ slate, many might be disappointed by their absence—but it’s best just to take the win. Their nominations, and hopeful win, alone could open the door to more recognition down the line.

After all, Marvel Studios is actively trying to fight the bias that remains out there with its push for Spider-Man: No Way Home, a film still playing in theaters, to be properly considered for The Oscars.

With all that Marvel Studios has done, they certainly deserve more wins than they've received. Fingers crossed that changes.
