Five years after 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home came to theaters, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige teased how much Jamie Foxx's "Black Spider-Man" line actually means. No Way Home changed the game in many ways for the MCU, opening the door more fully to the multiverse and bringing back iconic Spider-Man villain stars for another round of action against Tom Holland. On top of this, the film further set the stage for another famous web-slinger to join the party.
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige addressed the line from Jamie Foxx's Electro in Spider-Man: No Way Home that teased Miles Morales' eventual arrival. During the final battle in No Way Home, Foxx's Electro admits to Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker that he thought Spider-Man would be Black under the mask, given all the good he had done for people. Peter apologizes, and Max exclaims, "There's gotta be a Black Spider-Man somewhere out there." Speaking in Shanghai, China (via Weibo), Feige reflected on the line and recalled that "audiences around the world were thrilled" by it, moving to Sony's hit animated Miles Morales-led Spider-Verse franchise. He reconfirmed Marvel Studios' plan to introduce a live-action Miles, noting that a "live-action Spider-Man movie has this destiny:" after the Spider-Verse movies end:
"One of the fun things about this business is that we're always dreaming and coming up with ideas. There's a line in 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' where Electro says, 'Somewhere there's bound to be a Black Spider-Man.' Audiences around the world were thrilled because they knew it might be a hint at Miles [Morales]. The good news is, Sony has the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse series, which are is popular and excellent, and Beyond the Spider-Verse is coming out next year. But yes, we definitely have plans ([or a live-action Miles], and I think a live-action Spider-Man movie has this destiny: to add Miles sometime after the Spider-Verse series ends."
After years of questions, this is now confirmed to be a tease for Miles Morales' arrival into the MCU. This also comes after Donald Glover's Aaron Davis (Miles' uncle) said that he had "a nephew who [lives] here" after being webbed up in 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming. A deleted scene also had him call Miles directly and tell him he would be late getting home with the groceries.
As of writing, there is no timeframe for Miles Morales' official debut in the MCU, nor are there any rumors teasing who may be cast in the role when he arrives.
How Will Miles Morales Come Into the MCU?
It seems to be only a matter of time before Miles arrives in the MCU, gets his powers, and becomes Spider-Man alongside Tom Holland's Peter Parker. Now, the question is when that will happen and how Marvel Studios will introduce him.
Possibly the most logical choice would be to introduce a depowered Miles in Spider-Man 5, setting up his friendship with Peter before he has his own spider-bite origin story (similar to what happened in Insomniac's Marvel's Spider-Man video game series). From here, the latter stages of that movie could include Miles revealing this news to Peter, setting them up to train him into a hero at the end of Holland's second trilogy.
Additionally, 2027's Avengers: Secret Wars could be the place to introduce Miles, coming after the end of Shameik Moore's Spider-Verse trilogy in June 2027. In the comics, Secret Wars is where Miles transitions from Earth-1610 to Earth-616 after his home reality is destroyed by an incursion, which could be replicated in the MCU. However, the MCU could also skip this step and establish Miles from the jump in Earth-616, allowing him to build his hero skills quickly for the ultimate battle with Doctor Doom.
