In May 2017, Zack Snyder stepped away as director of Justice League to be with his mourning family following the death of his daughter, Autumn Snyder.
The film was then completed by former Avengers director Joss Whedon. After subpar critical reviews and an underwhelming box office performance (less than $660 million worldwide), fans were not satisfied with Whedon's final product.
Fans across the globe began the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut campaign in hopes to get Zack Snyder's original vision for the film. Finally, in May of last year, the fans, cast members, and Snyder himself got what they wanted when Zack Snyder's Justice League was announced to be streaming on HBO Max in 2021. Snyder officially returned to finish the project he had left three years earlier.
Now, a new tidbit about the upcoming release has been shared regarding the new soundtrack...
THE SNYDER CUT'S FINAL SONG
In a recent interview with Vanity Fair , Zack Snyder revealed that his cut of Justice League will end with Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” performed by Allison Crowe. Snyder cited Crowe as a friend who performed the song at his daughter's funeral.
According to Vanity Fair, Hallelujah was Autumn's favorite song, and this will be one way Snyder will celebrate her life in this film.
A HEARTFELT TRIBUTE TO SNYDER'S DAUGHTER
During his interview with Vanity Fair, Snyder opening up more about the loss of his daughter and how the Snyder Cut has served on some level as "catharsis" for him:
“When you think about the catharsis of it, if I was a potter, I would’ve made some pottery to look for some way through this...But I’m a filmmaker, so you get this giant movie.”
Snyder mentioned that "she was the only fan" in the family of his work in science fiction. Snyder also said of his daughter in that “She’s super creative. She was a writer. She was at Sarah Lawrence to be a writer.” He also explained that she wrote to vent her pain.
Her fandom was on full display in a photo Snyder showed Vanity Fair of Autumn wearing the leather jacket worn by Ray Fischer's Cyborg in Justice League . Due to the circumstances of Snyder's departure being directly related to his daughter's death, this likely won't be the only tribute to Autumn in the upcoming four-hour DC epic .
Zack Snyder's Justice League is set to premiere on HBO Max March 18, 2021.
