The MCU may be in a bit of a lull right now, but this short respite will be short-lived with Moon Knight kicking off another run of superpowered adventures at home on Disney+. Another more mysterious project in the streaming sphere is Armor Wars. The series is likely set to come sometime in 2023, but nothing has been 100% confirmed on the scheduling front.
Armor Wars will take on the legacy of Robert Downey Jr.s Tony Stark, as Don Cheadle a.k.a. War Machine navigates through a post-Avengers: Endgame MCU. Aside from a brief cameo in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Cheadle has not appeared for Marvel Studios since Endgame, so fans are excited to see what Rhodey has been up to.
In the same way that Hawkeye and Black Widow were the first time long-standing MCU figures got their first solo project, Armor Wars looks to be that for James Rhodes/War Machine.
And even though the show is at least 18 months away, the project has received a promising production update.
Armor Wars Gets a Filming Date
My Cosmic Circus' Lizzie Hall tweeted that Armor Wars is set to film in Fall 2022.
Replying to a tweet saying the upcoming Don Cheadle-starring series would be filming starting in May, Hill clarified that production is now expected to begin this year in "October/November" in Atlanta, Georgia.
It's Only a Matter of Time
This October/November filming start for Armor Wars, while still a ways away, does make a lot of sense. This series, along with Ironheart and Secret Invasion, do feel like they are kind of in that next wave of Disney+ MCU projects.
Right now, fans sort of have an idea of how 2022 will shape out for Marvel on the Disney streaming service, but 2023 remains a serious question mark. With Armor Wars shooting later this year, that likely means it will be coming after 2022 comes to an end.
With Secret Invasion shooting right now, that project feels like the most poised for an early 2023 date. If that is the case, then Armor Wars feels like a natural fit to follow the Nick Fury-led Skrull conspiracy.
There still isn't much actually known about Rhodey's iron-plated adventure, but if a shooting schedule is starting to get hammered out (like Tony's armor in that godforsaken cave), then details on the series will be soon to follow.
But for now, fans have to sit back and wait as Armor Wars and its creative team make their way though preproduction.
