In the past few weeks, Zack Snyder's Justice League has been making the rounds in social media as well as in several other outlets. After a grueling grassroots campaign from fans and Snyder himself, the highly anticipated release of the famous director's cut is officially on its way to HBO Max next year. Eyeing an early to mid-2021 release, the Snyder Cut is set to deliver a different experience to fans, completely ignoring the theatrical version that was released in 2017 while fulfilling the true version of the visionary director.
The official announcement of the release of the Snyder Cut garnered support not only from fans but also from the cast of Justice League. One of the stars who showed support is Henry Cavill, DCEU's Superman, who mentioned that the Snyder Cut's release was a "win-win" for fans. Even if the Snyder Cut is on its way, it seems that Cavill's excitement is still apparent based on a recent interview.
In an interview from Variety's Actors on Actors issue, Patrick Stewart had the opportunity to ask Cavill about the upcoming release of Zack Snyder's Justice League. Despite being tight-lipped about the specifics of the director's cut, Cavill shared that he's "really happy" that Snyder will get the chance to "realize his vision":
“Oh the Snyder Cut, the famous-slash-infamous-slash-all-sorts-of-things Snyder Cut. I can’t really tell you anything aside from the fact that all I know is that HBO Max will be releasing it, I believe, and it’ll be Zack’s final vision for the movie, and I don’t know anything more than that.
“I’m just really happy that Zack got to realize his vision. I think it’s important for a filmmaker and a storyteller to have their intended vision released and shown to the world, and I’m looking forward to seeing it myself. It’s been quite the ordeal.”
While acknowledging that the theatrical version of the film was not well-received, Cavill then teased that "it’s going to be very enjoyable" for fans to finally witness what the Snyder Cut is all about:
“With ‘Justice League’ when it came, there was a mix of visions and the movie wasn’t well received, and then over the subsequent years, there was a big push to see the fabled Snyder Cut. And now that time has come, and I think it’s going to be very enjoyable to watch Zack finally release his version.”
WHAT THIS MEANS
While the future of Cavill as the DCEU's Superman is still up in the air, the actor's comments and enthusiasm about the impending release of the Snyder Cut should ease fans' worries. As hardcore fans now know, Cavill's Superman was one of the characters that were drastically changed in the theatrical cut, as evidenced by the CGI fiasco that was pointed out by fans and critics.
Interestingly, the long list of reveals from Snyder throughout the director's campaign revealed a lot of story points that were removed for the Man of Tomorrow, ranging from the character's resurrection to even suiting up into a black Superman suit at one point. Cavill's support for the intended vision of the director is evident, seemingly hinting that the actor is a huge fan of how Snyder treated the Superman persona in his director's cut.
Cavill's promise of the cut being enjoyable should serve as good news to fans everywhere. With the recent teaser showing a glimpse of what's to come, there is reason to believe that the Snyder Cut's imminent release will be one like no other, while also redeeming Cavill's performance as Superman in the process.
