Hawkeye is set to do a deep dive into the life of Jeremy Renner's Clint Barton while also giving the spotlight to the hero's successor in the form of Hailee Steinfeld's Kate Bishop.
Marvel Studios appears to be moving forward with the concept of legacy in Phase 4, setting the stage for the second generation of heroes to take over. The premise of Hawkeye is a good example of this, mainly because Barton is poised to pass the bow-wielding mantle to the future young Avenger.
Plot details of how the passing of the torch moment will happen are still being kept under wraps, but Renner confirmed in a previous interview that Steinfeld's MCU character is a "big Hawkeye fan."
Ahead of the show's November release, an official image from the Disney+ series already teased the first meeting between the two characters. Now, a brand new still offers another preview of Barton and Bishop's dynamic alongside a flurry sidekick.
Jeremy Renner & Hailee Steinfeld's MCU Pair
Disney officially released a new still from Hawkeye, showcasing a fresh look at Jeremy Renner's Clint Barton, Hailee Steinfeld's Kate Bishop, and Lucky the Pizza Dog.
An Intense Escape for the Two Hawkeyes?
This latest Hawkeye image suggests that Jeremy Renner and Hailee Steinfeld's MCU heroes are trying to escape an unknown threat. A previous set video managed to show the two characters in action, and it seemed then that they were trying to keep a low profile before boarding the subway.
It is possible that Clint is on the run from one of the show's villains like Fra Fee's Clown or the Tracksuit Mafia, and the Avenger could have accidentally brought Kate Bishop into his own mess. This could explain why the two heroes appear to have been arguing in the image, and there is a chance that Clint is trying to stop Bishop from tagging along for her own safety.
On the flip side, it is also possible that the two characters are on the run from Florence Pugh's Yelena Belova. In Black Widow's post-credits scene, it is revealed that Clint is Belova's next target, and it is looking more likely that Bishop could be on the same list as well due to her connections with the bow-wielding Avenger.
Whatever the case, it seems that this intense experience will further cement the mentor-mentee bond between Barton and Bishop, thus setting the stage for a much stronger team-up down the line.
The first episode of Hawkeye is set to premiere on Disney+ on November 24, 2021.
