The Skywalker Saga is thoroughly being explored on the small screen through various Disney+ shows, providing fans more insight into unseen events that weren't given the spotlight in the movies. One of the shows that will take a deep dive into these stories is Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Directed by The Mandalorian's Deborah Chow, the series will showcase the return of prequel star Ewan McGregor as the titular Jedi Master, and it is expected to pick up the character's story ten years after Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. Obi-Wan Kenobi will also feature the comeback of Hayden Christensen's Darth Vader, meaning that a rematch between the two former friends is imminent.
Aside from Christensen, Obi-Wan Kenobi also boasts a stacked ensemble of stars including the likes of Kumail Nanjani, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Moses Ingram, and many more.
Now, it seems that another veteran actress has joined the cast of the much-anticipated Disney+ series.
MAYA ERSKINE JOINS THE OBI-WAN KENOBI SERIES
Deadline shared in a report that PEN 15 star Maya Erskine has joined the cast of Obi-Wan Kenobi.
The outlet revealed that Erskine will have a “supporting role in at least three episodes” in the Disney+ series.
Erskine's previous work includes Insecure and Scoob. The actress was also nominated for multiple WGA Awards alongside a 2019 Emmy for Hulu original comedy PEN 15.
MAYA ERSKINE: STAR WARS VILLAIN OR HERO?
Plot details of Obi-Wan Kenobi are still being kept under wraps, meaning that Maya Erksine's role could be anyone at this point. However, the fact that the actress will have a supporting role in at least three episodes could hint that she will have a substantial part in the series.
There's a chance that Erskine will end up as an ally to Ewan McGregor's Obi-Wan Kenobi, potentially helping the Jedi Master for an unknown mission that could lead him out of Tatooine for a short amount of time. The comedic background of the actress in PEN 15 could be utilized by the series, thus cementing her role as one of Obi-Wan's trusted partners in several episodes.
On the flip side, Erskine could play an Imperial officer or even one of the Inquisitors who will try to hunt down Obi-Wan to achieve Darth Vader's mission. If this is the case, this means that a duel between her and the Jedi Master could be in the cards.
It will be a while before Erskine's role is revealed for the show. History suggests that it could be unveiled during the actual episode she's featured in, similar to other prominent actors from The Mandalorian.
This could be a good thing so that the hype for Obi-Wan Kenobi will dial up even more, and it will be interesting to find out which side will Erksine will end up on.
Obi-Wan Kenobi is set to stream on Disney+ sometime in 2022.
