The Arrowverse is expanding its world-building in exciting ways, due to the imminent arrival of fresh new faces in Batwoman and Superman & Lois, but the massive shift also meant that shows such as Supergirl & Black Lightning will be ending soon. Still, the anticipation for the Arrowverse's new chapter is sky-high, especially after the way the shows ended on several cliffhangers last season.

One of the lingering mysteries of the franchise is the fate of David Ramsey's John Diggle. To recap, the character was last seen in the series finale of Arrow, where Diggle seemingly obtained a shining green object that came from the sky. This fueled fan theories that Diggle will eventually suit up as Green Lantern for the Arrowverse, but not much is known if these speculations will ever see the light day.

Until now. It is being reported that the Arrowverse veteran will soon return to play a much larger role in the franchise, adding more fuel to the Green Lantern-themed rumors that fans have been raving about in the past months.

REPORT

Deadline shared in a report that David Ramsey will return to “direct five episodes” in the DC Universe which includes Superman & Lois and Supergirl. Not only that, the outlet also revealed that Ramsey will reprise his role as John Diggle in the aforementioned shows as well as The Flash and Batwoman

Aside from the previously-mentioned CW shows, Ramsey will also play a mystery role in DC's Legends of Tomorrow, with Deadline noting that the role “is being kept under wraps” for now.

Ramsey expressed his excitement towards his new role, declaring that he “can't wait to continue telling these stories:”

“I remain in awe of the imprint these shows have had on television and I’ve been blessed for the better part of a decade to be a part of them both in front of and behind the camera. To say I’m excited beyond belief to return to the Berlantiverse would be an understatement. I can’t wait to continue telling these stories.”

WHAT THIS MEANS

David Ramsey's involvement in the Arrowverse provides a sense of continuity for the monumental TV franchise. It's worth noting that Ramsey already had previous experience in terms of directing for the franchise, with the actor helming two episodes of Arrow, specifically during Seasons 7 and 8. Given that, the familiarity of the actor with the cast and the franchise's overall story should prove to be an advantage, ultimately leading to a smooth transition.

On the flip side, Ramsey's return as Diggle presents many interesting possibilities moving forward. In a way, this bodes well for fans who are eager to know about the character's fate at the end of Arrow. The character's involvement in shows such as The Flash and Batwoman could further cement Diggle as the main connective tissue of the Arrowverse, potentially leading to another massive crossover down the line.

Meanwhile, there's a strong chance that the mystery character that Ramsey will play in Legends of Tomorrow will end up being Green Lantern. Ramsey previously addressed the Green Lantern rumor by admitting that there was “serious discussion” about the matter. In addition, Arrowverse producer Marc Guggenheim didn't rule out the possibility of an eventual Green Lantern debut in the franchise, hinting that “we'll see where the future takes us.”

By connecting the dots, Legends seems to be the perfect show to feature Ramsey's debut as the ring-wielding hero since the previous season finale of the series hints that the team will venture into space to rescue Sara Lance from an unknown threat.

Whatever the case, it's clear that the Arrowverse isn't done with Diggle just yet, and this presents a piece of good news for fans of the franchise.
