Chinese Actress Fala Chen Speculated To Have Significant Role In Shang-Chi Movie

By Tom Drew Updated:
Fala Chen Possibly Has A Role In Shang-Chi As Leiko Wu, As Indicated By Social Media

Although production for Shang-Chi and The Legend Of The Ten Rings was unfortunately cut short, information about the film has continued to trickle in.

Although a new date for a return to filming has not been announced as of yet, director Destin Daniel Cretton indicated that there was a "definite plan in place" behind the scenes. In the meantime, fans have been treated to numerous on-set photos and videos prior to production shutting down, which gave a first look at actual footage from the film.

New casting announcements have also bolstered a wide array of actors being featured in Shang-Chi , with comedian Ronny Chieng joining Simu Liu, Awkwafina and Tony Leung in the film. A writer at Murphy's Universe has now connected some convincing pieces of evidence that could point to another actress's inclusion in the film...

NEWS

Lizzie Hill of Murphy's Multiverse speculates that Fala Chen will have a key role in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings , indicated by her social media account posting. Not only does the actress follow Shang-Chi actor and director Simu Liu and Destin Daniel Cretton, respectively, but she has posted several photos which could line up with the timeline for production of the film.

This includes a photo of Chen on an Air New Zealand flight and pictures of a Chinese New Year celebration that were liked by Liu. An exclusive from Murphy's Multiverse earlier this year also confirmed the inclusion of MI6 Agent Leiko Wu, which could be the character that Chen is portraying.

WHAT THIS MEANS

While this is pure speculation at this point, the evidence is quite convincing. Hill previously wrote a similar article regarding the possibility of Erin Kellyman appearing in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier , also drawing upon evidence from her social media. This was then proven to be correct after DiscussingFilm confirmed the actress' involvement in the series. Although these are not mutually exclusive, it could lend some credence to the likelihood of this speculation being correct.

Leiko Wu is a frequent ally of Shang-Chi in the comics. She is also part of a fictionalized version of MI6, who are known for trying to track down the villain Zheng Zu. Her possible inclusion in the film could indicate a shift in focus for the organization, through aiding Shang-Chi in hunting down The Mandarin and the Ten Rings, rather than Zheng Zu.

Ultimately, if Hill's sleuthing is correct once again, fans may be able to welcome a new face to Shang-Chi and the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
