Robert Pattinson's The Batman is mere months away and the Bruce Wayne faithful are waiting with bated breath. The upcoming reboot will be directed by Matt Reeves and will look to dive into Batman's roots as the world's greatest detective. Not much is known about the project other than it will see Mr. Wayne very early in his tenure as Gotham's Dark Knight and that it will take influence from thrillers like Zodiac, and Se7en.
Even though nothing official has been announced, it certainly feels like Warner Bros. is setting up The Batman to be the foundation of the next five to ten years of their vision of Gotham.
Since the film's first trailer debuted WB has announced plans of multiple spin-offs based on characters in this new Matt Reeves Bat-verse. So a sequel to The Batman is certainly already in the minds of the big names at Warner Bros. And it turns out they might not be the only ones.
Robert Pattinson Already Thinking About The Batman Sequels
In a new interview with Empire, The Batman star Robert Pattinson revealed that he is already thinking about potential sequels for the upcoming DC comics movie.
The actor said that he would "would love to do" more movies in the cape and cowl, and has already mapped out where "Bruce’s psychology would grow over two more movies:"
“I’ve made a kind of map for where Bruce’s psychology would grow over two more movies.”
And Pattinson's hopes for more in The Batman universe may be founded. The Batman producer Dylan Clarke told Empire that the movie is hopefully a "foundation that you can build stories upon," meaning that even Warner is already looking at potential sequels:
“As the first standalone Batman in ten years, the hope is we can lay a foundation that you can build stories upon.”
Expanding the World of The Batman
It almost feels like an inevitability that a sequel to The Batman will be announced. If the quality of the final film stands up to what has been shown in both trailers for the film, then WB is going to have another hit on its hands.
And it is exciting to see that Bruce Wayne himself, Robert Pattinson, is already preparing for the prospect of a The Batman 2. The story of a comic book movie star getting cold feet after a sequel to their debut is announced is nothing new, so if Pattinson is already looking ahead then fans do not have to worry.
Robert Pattinson and Matt Reeves have made it known that The Batman is really going to dive into Bruce's psyche as someone who is spending his nights taking down the scum of Gotham City. So the fact that R-Patt is already thinking about where his character's head would go from here, can only mean good things.
Now, The Batman 2 (or 3 for that matter) has not yet been announced, but there have been whispers of a sequel circling online for months. Supposedly The Batman ends on somewhat of a cliffhanger, so it would only make sense that those loose threads were resolved in a potential second movie.
Does that cliffhanger center on the rumored inclusion of Barry Keoghan as the Joker? It could! And after Paul Dano's Riddler is off the table, then Keoghan as the Clown Prince of Gotham would make the perfect antagonist for the next two films.
For now, though, it is all conjecture. All fans can do is sit and wait for Warner Bros. to officially announce The Batman 2.
The Batman comes to theaters on March 4, 2022.
