Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to showcase the Multiverse at the forefront. The upcoming MCU film will serve as the sequel to 2016's Doctor Strange, featuring the return of Benedict Cumberbatch's titular sorcerer alongside familiar allies such as Benedict Wong's Wong and Rachel McAdams' Christine Palmer. On top of that, Elizabeth Olsen's Wanda Maximoff will also join the alternate reality adventure alongside newcomer America Chavez.
Information about Multiverse of Madness has been tightly guarded ever since its announcement. However, in the past months, important details about the sequel came to light due to a combination of rumors, leaked merchandise, and its first official trailer.
The sequel's first footage teased that the events would occur right after Spider-Man: No Way Home, with Strange seeking the help of Wanda to fix whatever is happening in the Multiverse. In addition, leaked promotional art also indicated the arrival of Gargantos, a one-eyed tentacle monster that ultimately spells trouble for Strange and his allies.
Now, a new listing for the movie might have teased the inclusion of another version of Earth's Mightiest Heroes.
Guardians of the Multiverse 2.0?
The Cosmic Circus uncovered official new merchandise for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness that could tease the potential appearance of Multiversal Avengers in the sequel.
In a listing from Amazon, an official description of a premium t-shirt for the movie teases the existence of Earth's Mightiest Heroes "that might just be from a whole new Multiverse:"
"Experience Doctor Strange in a whole-new mind-bending adventure with Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. This Avengers t-shirt showcases the Avengers logo for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes that might just be from a whole new multiverse. Available in youth and adult sizes. Get it in a t-shirt, premium t-shirt, tank top, v-neck, long sleeve tee, and sweatshirt."
Alongside the reveal, an updated Avengers logo was also unveiled:
Doctor Strange: Savior of the Multiverse
It remains to be seen if this latest description could later translate into a live-action appearance, but many would agree that anything is possible in a Doctor Strange sequel.
What If...? already introduced the Guardians of the Multiverse concept, with the Watcher recruiting different heroes from across realities. However, the description's wording suggests that these Avengers came from a single alternate Earth, thus potentially hinting that Variants of the main MCU heroes could appear in the movie.
Given the wide popularity of What If...?'s Captain Carter, it's possible that her version of the Avengers could appear to aid Strange with the Multiversal chaos. This would present an opportunity to catch up with the status of the star-spangled heroine while also showcasing a different look at the Avengers in an alternate universe.
This is also in line with the previous comments of Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, with the head executive teasing that the stories told in What If...? "may... spin into other mediums."
All in all, the Avengers' inclusion in Multiverse of Madness makes narrative sense, especially considering that the fate of multiple realities is on the line.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to premiere in theaters on May 6, 2022.
