The Falcon and the Winter Soldier may have premiered this week, but there are still a few main characters fans are waiting to see . The first episode spent a lot of time setting up Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes' journey, however, audiences are yet to see Emily VanCamp's return as Sharon Carter.

The last time audiences caught a glimpse of Sharon she had dropped off some much-needed superhero gear to Steve Rogers and Sam after they became fugitives for helping Bucky in Captain America: Civil War . Steve and Sharon had just kicked off their romance before Sharon had to leave to avoid being pursued by authorities. She was also a known missing person during The Blip so when audiences see her again she'll likely be dealing with the fallout of Avengers: Endgame .

GET READY FOR A VERY DIFFERENT SHARON CARTER

Speaking to Good Housekeeping , actress Emily VanCamp teased a "very different" Sharon Carter in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier .

"When we see her now, she's a little rough around the edges. She's been on the run, she's had to take care of herself, she mentions that in Civil War that she has to disappear for a little while, and I think here we get a little sense of what she's been up to and how she's had to fend for herself and make her own way in this new world. It's a very, very different Sharon ... You can imagine that there's a little bitterness there."

VanCamp clarified that this bitterness has little to do with Sharon's budding romance with Steve Rogers, who ends up choosing a life with Peggy Carter in Avengers: Endgame. The lack of closure between Sharon and Steve is "never addressed" in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, meaning that fans won't be seeing Sharon Carter's reaction to Steve and Peggy's happy ending. This makes complete sense given that their reunion occurred in an alternate timeline and has presumably been kept secret from people outside of Steve Rogers' inner circle.

VanCamp went on to explain:

"Would I say there's a ton of closure for Sharon? No, not really. But then again, does anyone ever get closure in these movies and TV shows?"

Finally, when asked if audiences will see Sharon's story continue past The Falcon and the Winter Soldier , VanCamp responded with "we'll see."

SHARON CARTER 2.0

Although Sharon Carter has grown to be more than just a love interest for Steve Rogers, she would likely have some thoughts about his fate after Avengers: Endgame . As was revealed in the premiere, most of the world has no idea what really happened to Captain America, so it'll be interesting to see how much Sharon knows about this, or if she finds out during the series.

It might comfort Sharon to know that her aunt lived a happy life with Captain America. Although with VanCamp teasing a lack of closure, audiences may never see how Sharon feels about Steve and Peggy's romance or whether she has any remaining feelings for Steve.

Seeing a "very different" Sharon in TFATWS seems to line up with what's been teased for the character so far. Sharon can be seen living a much rougher life as a fugitive in TFATWS marketing materials , which will no doubt have an impact on the refined SHIELD agent audiences last saw. It hasn't been revealed whether Sharon's fugitive lifestyle is still ongoing from her actions in Captain America: Civil War or if it's related to something new in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier . Either way, audiences won't have to wait long to find out with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier airing new episodes weekly.
