Marvel Studios struck gold with its first Disney+ series in 2021 as WandaVision and its unique superhero-sitcom blend proved to be an instant hit among viewers. Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch has quickly become one of the MCU's most popular heroes in advance of her appearance in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Wanda wasn't the only fan-favorite to come out of the reality-bending sitcom as Kathryn Hahn's Agatha Harkness was instantly beloved by fans, critics, and, apparently, the studio, as she is set to lead her own Disney+ spin-off, Agatha: House of Harkness.
With the WandaVision spin-off having only recently been announced, news on the project remains scarce, but a new report offered an update on when production will begin
When Does Agatha: House of Harkness Start Filming?
According to a recent report from The Cosmic Circus' Lizzie Hill, Agatha: House of Harkness is planning to begin filming in late October 2022 in Georgia.
The insider revealed the WandaVision spin-off series is operating under the behind-the-scenes working title of Oakhaven Productions LLC.
Does Agatha Harkness Need a Series?
Oakhaven was interestingly a fictional suburb of Salem, Massachusetts, featured in Scooby Dog! and the Witch's Ghost, seemingly linking the series' production title to Agatha Harkness' historic 1600s roots shown in WandaVision.
Marvel Studios' production titles rarely hold any meaning or significance in the actual storyline as it simply serves as a placeholder name to maintain the secrecy behind the scenes. Although these titles often end up containing subtle references to the story, perhaps this may indicate some Scooby Doo-inspiration in the series.
The WandaVision antagonist may at first appear to be a questionable choice to lead her own Disney+ series, but the spin-off is almost certainly an attempt to capitalize on the ground-breaking popularity of the reality-bending sitcom.
While WandaVision may not lend itself particularly easily to a second season, the spin-off will probably serve as a way to follow up on its theme and characters. Perhaps other members of Marvel's magical world may tag along for the ride as Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch or Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange could lend nicely to the series.
After Agatha served as the creepy and terrifying villain of WandaVision, it will be interesting to see how writer Jac Schaeffer can continue her character arc to become a likable protagonist in her own right. Harkness has never led her own series in Marvel Comics, so Schaeffer will be conjuring up a storyline of her own for the Salem witch's solo debut.
Loki took the God of Mischief out of the MCU timeline at his most villainous point - after the Battle of New York - and quickly turned him into a hero in his own right. Maybe Agatha may receive a similar redemption arc in House of Harkness.
With production slated to begin towards the end of the year, Agatha: House of Harkness will likely premiere in late 2023, exclusively on Disney+.
