Despite Disney enjoying the spotlight with its other massive IP, for many, May is all about the galaxy far, far away. Star Wars will jump back into the conversation this month as the hotly-anticipated Obi-Wan Kenobi finally hits Disney+. That paired with the annual May the 4th festivities and Star Wars Celebration, and it certainly feels like the biggest name in sci-fi has the month of May on lock.
Many are expecting a bevy of announcements and teases of what is to come for Star Wars at Star Wars Celebration, but there could be even more fun coming on May the 4th. Usually, on the Star Wars-themed holiday, Lucasfilm does something to commemorate the day.
Whether it be the launch of a new series like last year's premiere of The Bad Batch, or the debut of a new trailer, there is always plenty of fun to be had on the 4th. But what can fans expect on this year's symbolically Star Wars day? Well, Disney may have just put out the first tease for what is to come.
Big Things for May the 4th
The official Star Wars Twitter account tweeted they have a couple of things planned for the upcoming May the 4th.
The account was replying to a tweet asking what people had planned for the honorary Star Wars day, saying they "have a thing or two planned."
Disney has plans to release the Disney Gallery: The Book of Boba Fett Documentary, a new Obi-Wan comic, and various LEGO sets on the day, but this could mean they have a few things up their sleeves.
May the 4th be With You
So what could Lucasfilm be teasing with this cryptic tweet? This could be a case of fans reading too deeply into something that will simply come to mean nothing, but it certainly feels like the right time for the franchise to make a bit of noise.
One of the most obvious picks for what they are referring to would be a second Obi-Wan Kenobi trailer. The Disney+ series is mere weeks away, debuting during Star Wars Celebration 2022. Because of this release timing, the 4th feels like the most logical time to drop a second trailer and continue to drum up anticipation for the upcoming show.
If this second trailer does end up coming on May the 4th, it will likely be the first time fans get a visual taste of Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader in the series. The first teaser only offered audio allusions to the famed Sith lord, but the 4th would be the perfect spot to at least give a slight tease towards Vader's involvement in the show.
The other thing that this tweet could be referring to is the sequel to Jedi: Fallen Order. Rumors surrounding this video game sequel have reached a fever pitch over the last couple of weeks, with whispers that an announcement was imminent.
Now, insider Jeff Grubb has come out saying that the game is likely slated for 2023, and there has been no indication that it will be talked about at Star Wars Celebration, so perhaps gamers will be the ones hooting and hollering when all the May the 4th fun is done.
But that is all speculation. For now, all fans can do is wait to see what Lucasfilm and Disney in store for them on this upcoming force-filled day.
