Thanks to the global pandemic — which has altered daily life over the past ten months — uncertainties are present in every aspect of how the world works these days. This is especially true in the entertainment industry, which has faced the delay of dozens of projects from every major studio.
Earlier news confirmed that Disney is at least considering VOD releases at home for some of their biggest blockbusters of 2021, including Marvel Studios' movies like Black Widow and Eternals . More news has come to light that pushes this even further with another Marvel movie confirmed to have its own release delayed.
Variety is reporting that Sony Pictures' Marvel movie Morbius will have its theatrical release delayed until October 8, 2021. It was originally pushed back the first time to March 8, 2021.
WHAT THIS MEANS
Both Warner Bros. and Marvel Studios are being forced to face delays to their upcoming superhero releases, which have compiled on top of each other through all of 2020 and early 2021. While it’s not shocking that Sony has to deal with the same issues, it’s no less disappointing for fans who have been looking forward to this release.
Morbius is the latest addition to the Sony Universe of Spider-Man Characters franchise with Jared Leto’s mad scientist-turned-living-vampire in the starring role. Rumors have circulated that this film will be connected with the MCU thanks to the Spider-Man poster in the trailer and the appearance of Michael Keaton, very possibly reprising his role as Adrian Toomes from Spider-Man: Homecoming .
Even though it’s disappointing to see the movie pushed back again, this release date comes right before Halloween 2021. Seems to be an appropriate time frame to debut a dark movie centered around vampires.
Morbius will now release on October 8, 2021.
