Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige certainly has a lot to look forward to from the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the next couple of years, highlighted by movies like Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Although the intergalactic threequel still has plenty of work left to finish with filming and production as a whole, James Gunn's third MCU solo movie is gaining momentum quickly before its May 2023 release.

As the Guardians franchise becomes a full-blown trilogy, Marvel is looking to give the team of intergalactic misfits its biggest and boldest story to date. Following a minor role in Thor: Love and Thunder along with their Holiday Special on Disney+, the group will have plenty of tough challenges to face, which includes interactions with Will Poulter's Adam Warlock and even likely the High Evolutionary.

While story details are still being kept a secret, for the time being, the team at Marvel Studios has shared plenty of positive reactions to the work being done on Guardians 3 thus far. This continues to be the case in a new interview with Gunn, who shared some insight into how Feige feels about what's coming to fruition from the set.

In a recent chat with Collider, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 director James Gunn reflected on the work that's been done so far on his MCU threequel.

Looking specifically at actor Chukwudi Iwuji, with whom Gunn also worked on Peacemaker, the director revealed that the actor has people "freaking out" about how good he is in his undisclosed role.

Gunn also shared that he showed Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige some of what's been completed and that Feige and the team were "really, really, really stoked" about what they saw:

"It's going great. Chukwudi, who plays Murn in Peacemaker, is one of the main characters in the movie and people are freaking out over how good this guy is. Literally freaking out. I think that I'm really happy. I gave a bunch of scenes to Marvel right before Christmas break. Kevin [Feige] went... They were all really, really, really stoked. But also, it's not going to be the movie people... It's different than what people are going to expect. It's a hard road, but I'm really happy with it so far."

Gunn & Feige "Stoked" for Guardians 3

Ever since Gunn first made the Guardians a household name in their 2014 solo film Guardians of the Galaxy, Feige and the team at Marvel have focused plenty of attention on making sure the group has the best stories possible within the MCU. These early reactions should be indicative of this happening yet again as they take on their first solo adventure in what will have been six years.

This news also brings even more hype and mystery to Chukwudi Iwuji's unknown role, which should take things to a new level for him after his first collaboration with Gunn on Peacemaker within the DCEU. Whether he plays the High Evolutionary or someone similarly powerful, Iwuji will have fans on high alert for what he brings to the MCU.

No matter how the specifics work out, Guardians 3 is looking to become possibly one of Marvel Studios' biggest Phase 4 outings, even in a slate that includes game-changers like Spider-Man: No Way Home. With the excitement already coming from Gunn and Feige over such a mysterious movie, the sky seems to be the limit for Star-Lord and the crew on the big screen.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will debut in theaters on May 5, 2023.
