Over the years, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has grown to become the biggest franchise in Hollywood, earning critical praise, financial success, and the praise of moviegoers around the world. But that doesn't mean everybody is a fan, as recent years have seen a number of Hollywood icons begin to speak out and criticize the MCU.
Legendary filmmakers like Denis Villeneuve, Martin Scorsese, and Francis Ford Coppola have all proven critical of the MCU, even Moon Knight's Ethan Hawke had his own things to say several years back. Although Scorsese's comments are obviously the most infamous and divisive as he compared the franchise's films to theme parks and referred to them as "not cinema."
The critical comments of these Hollywood elites haven't been enough to stop Marvel Studios from picking up star-studded talents, including Russell Crowe, Christian Bale, and Anthony Hopkins. Now, the superhero studio looks to have picked up its latest in A-list talent with an actress who has recently been doing some Marvel-bashing of her own.
Jamie Lee Curtis May Be Joining the MCU
UPDATE: In response to a post on the @MCU_Direct Twitter account, James Gunn debunked rumors of Jamie Lee Curtis' appearance with a simple "Nope."
The Cosmic Circus' Lizzie Hill revealed she has heard that Hollywood legend Jamie Lee Curtis will appear in one of James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy projects that recently filmed in Atlanta.
Hill opted not to publish the scoop at the time due to Curtis' previous anti-Marvel sentiments creating doubt over its validity, as well as her inability to confirm the scoop with other reliable sources.
Atlanta Filming appeared to validate the information by sharing an anti-Marvel post of Curtis' with a caption noting that the actress was filming in the Georgia city in January for "Something comic book-related. Something galactic."
I have a bad memory... but... I thought @curtisleejamie was in Atlanta and at Trilith in January for something comic book-related. Something galactic.
Curtis has recently made several posts to jokingly bash Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as it heads into theaters against her own critically acclaimed Multiverse epic, Everything Everywhere All at Once.
Who Could Jamie Lee Curtis Play in the MCU?
Upon closer examination of Jamie Lee Curtis' past posts and comments, they all appear to be written in a joking and friendly manner. The actress even ended one recent Instagram post with "#guessiwillneverbecastinamarvelmovie," and yet now it looks as if she has been.
There are countless Marvel roles that the Halloween star could pull off given her acting ability, but the actress going to the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise lends her role being a mere cameo. Of course, it currently remains unclear whether Curtis will go to The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special or Vol. 3, assuming the rumors are true that is.
James Gunn recently picked up another icon for his duo of Guardians projects in Kevin Bacon, who was reportedly on set for a scene taking place in Hollywood's Beverly Hills. With this being the case, it's entirely possible both these actors will be appearing in this setting as themselves, something that would undoubtedly be hilarious.
The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special will premiere on Disney+ this December, to be followed by Vol. 3 in theaters on May 5, 2023.
