Avengers: Endgame was the end of an era—no doubt about it. It brought about the means to conclude the Infinity Saga storyline, alongside the end of several fan favorites' stories such as Steve Rogers and Tony Stark. While there were many endings, there was one huge beginning.
Obviously, that new beginning belongs to Loki. The God of Mischief lucked out thanks to a Tony Stark screw-up, leading to the Tom Hiddleston's MCU antihero being shot across space and time, and theoretically ending up at the TVA.
Fans are less than one week away from continuing that story. With how crazy the show has been teased to be, what can fans expect from Marvel's third Disney+ outing? If the Loki series is indeed shooting from one timeline to the next, can viewers expect to see some exciting new or alternate characters pop up? If only for a second?
Well, thankfully, the creatives behind Loki might have an answer to that.
LOKI BRINGING ON THE MCU CAMEOS?
In an interview with Digital Spy, head writer for Loki Michael Waldron and director Kate Herron were on hand to discuss their upcoming show.
Of course, when talking about a show involving time travel within the MCU, the events of Avengers: Endgame are obviously going to come up. Apparently, though, Waldron and Herron got a rare opportunity: they got to see Avengers: Endgame early.
An exciting opportunity for sure, but the first question that Waldron had on his mind regarding his Disney+ series was how exciting it was to be telling a story in "this uncharted territory..."
"We’re making Loki in this era after that...To me, that was exciting – this unchartered territory of 'where does the MCU go?' It felt like, more than ever, that sandbox – we could blow the lid on it, and go wherever we wanted to."
According to both of them, there were no comic book characters that were off-limits for them to use. As Waldron put it, "if they were within the rights," they could use them:
"If they were within the rights, and legal could clear it, there was no reason we couldn’t try and chase them down."
If any character was fair game, then does that mean fans can expect some cool and surprising Marvel cameos? Simply put, Michael Waldron says to "expect the unexpected" throughout the Tom Hiddleston-led series.
According to Kate Herron, there were times when she worried that things might be getting a little too weird, thinking to her self "they're not going to let me do this." Much to her surprise, Marvel responded, telling her to double down and "go weirder."
WHAT MARVEL CAMEOS CAN LOKI FANS EXPECT?
With how all over the place Loki seems to be at times, it's hard to truly nail down what surprises may be in store for fans—especially when it comes to cameos. The first one that comes to mind though is a big one: Kang the Conqueror.
While already announced for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Jonathan Majors' upcoming MCU villain has been heavily hinted at as making his first appearance in Loki. And to be blunt, Marvel Studios can't really continue to utilize time travel without Kang. As Stark said in Avengers: Endgame, "when you mess with time, it tends to mess back."
Of course, there are plenty of other options for Hiddleston's titular character to run into as well. There are going to be several versions—or variants if you will—of Loki featured within the Disney+ series. Who knows; fans might even get to see Throg come to the silver screen.
