Spider-Man: No Way Home confirmed that Benedict Wong's Wong is now the MCU's Sorcerer Supreme, meaning that the character will have a significant role moving forward. Wong also had a minor yet important role in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Ringswith the film's post-credits scene confirming that he has access to contact the Avengers to address potential threats that could put Earth in jeopardy. When Wong returns in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, it is expected that his status as Sorcerer Supreme will be explored further.

Multiverse of Madness' promotional push has been ramping up in the past weeks, with Marvel Studios recently revealing a final trailer to prepare fans for the sequel. In addition, Wong has been at the core of the sequel's marketing, which makes sense considering his newfound status in the MCU.

While Marvel Studios is going all-in to prevent spoilers from leaking, the Multiverse of Madness actor has quietly teased the importance of the sequel's post-credits scenes.

Benedict Wong reminded fans via Twitter to stay for one of the post-credits scenes of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, saying:

"Real fans watch until the post-credits scene…"

The Doctor Strange sequel has been confirmed to have a total of two post-credits scenes, with reports saying that at least one of which will almost certainly prove to be ground-breaking.

In a separate report, Wong sat down with Screen Rant to talk about his character's "greater responsibility" in the sequel, describing it as a "huge sort of crescendo moment:"

“It’s a huge sort of crescendo moment, I think, for Wong. We’ve seen how he’s been stuck here, sedentary in the library, and now he’s kind of moved out from the library. We’ve seen him fight upon - I can’t say - in the film Shang-Chi, and so he’s obviously been training ... And it’s come to this; this greater responsibility that he has.”

The Impact of Doctor Strange's Post-Credits Scene

The fact that Benedict Wong is urging fans to stay for the post-credits scene could support the idea that this sequence will showcase something significant. Given that Multiverse of Madness seems poised to introduce massive ramifications across alternate realities, the sequel's post-credits scene could introduce the next big storyline not just for a third Doctor Strange movie, but for the MCU as a whole.

It's possible that the post-credits scene will explore Doctor Strange's next adventure or it might also revolve around Wong's greater responsibility of becoming Sorcerer Supreme. On the flip side, it might also be connected to Avengers 5, thus setting up a conflict that requires Earth's Mightiest Heroes to reassemble.

Meanwhile, Wong's future is unknown at this point, but the MCU veteran did previously mention that he is open to returning for a Disney+ spinoff centered around the character and potentially Spider-Man's Ned.

From appearing in multiple projects to leaving his library behind, Wong has essentially taken things to another level in Phase 4. The actor's statement about embracing this newfound authority is a welcome development, and fans will get a much closer look at him in action in the Doctor Strange sequel.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to premiere in theaters on May 6.
