Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to push the concept of alternate realities into the forefront, meaning there's a good chance that other versions of characters from previous and current Marvel projects will be included.
Directed by Sam Raimi, the Phase 4 entry will showcase the return of Benedict Cumberbatch's Stephen Strange, and he will be joined by another Avenger in the form of Elizabeth Olsen's Wanda Maximoff. Alongside the mystical pair, Strange's trusted ally, Wong, will also return alongside Rachel McAdams' Christine Palmer.
Although production has already wrapped for the sequel, plot details of Multiverse of Madness are still being kept under lock and key. This could hint that the film will be filled with all sorts of multiverse-related surprises.
The secrecy surrounding the Doctor Strange sequel has led to the emergence of multiple rumors online. From a potential appearance of Hayley Atwell's Captain Carter from What If...? all the way to a rumored clash between Scarlet Witch and a character from Fox's Marvel universe, there has been no shortage of rumors that have been spreading online.
Now, a new rumor has surfaced that directly ties to another multiverse-related MCU series.
A DOCTOR STRANGE/LOKI CROSSOVER
Co-host Derek Cornell shared a rumor on The DisInsider Show's "Rumor of the Week" segment, saying that Owen Wilson's Mobius and Sophia DiMartino's Sylvie from Loki will appear in Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
A MULTIVERSAL REUNION FOR MCU CHARACTERS
While fans can take this rumor with a grain of salt, it makes narrative sense due to the multiversal connections between Loki and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. In addition, it was previously reported that Tom Hiddleston would return as Loki in Multiverse of Madness, so it's understandable that Owen Wilson and Sophia DiMartino's MCU characters would follow suit.
It is unknown how Mobius and Sylvie will be utilized in the sequel, but the Loki Season 1 finale could hint at what their roles will be in the film.
Mobius was last seen in a revamped TVA alongside Hunter B-15, and it was made clear in the episode that he was an alternate version of the character. It's possible that the main Mobius that the fans know and love will be the one to be featured in Multiverse of Madness, allowing the viewers to catch up on what happened to Loki's newfound friend.
Sylvie's fate, however, remains tricky. The Loki Variant was last seen in the Citadel at the End of Time after killing He Who Remains, thus opening up the multiverse in the process. It's possible that Doctor Strange managed to track down Sylvie at the Citadel, considering that the Sorcerer would likely be keen to find out who was responsible.
There's a chance that Sylvie will be the one to explain to Strange what went down at the Citadel and who He Who Remains really is, making the Sorcerer aware of Kang the Conqueror. After their conversation, Sylvie could ask Strange to open up a portal to parts unknown, thus creating many story opportunities for Loki Season 2.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to premiere in theaters on March 25, 2022.
