The next slate of Marvel movies recently experienced multiple delays, but one film stood its ground in the form of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 since it is still slated for release in theaters on May 5, 2023.
James Gunn, who directed the first two Guardians films, is set to return in the directing chair, and it will also showcase the comeback of franchise mainstays such as Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Karen Gillan, and Pom Klementieff.
Plot details are still shrouded in secrecy, but it was already confirmed that the film will feature the MCU debut of Adam Warlock, who will be played by Will Poulter.
Pre-production has been well underway for the MCU threequel, with Gunn leading the charge on social media. The veteran filmmaker shared storyboarding developments of the movie as well as confirming the inclusion of The Suicide Squad's John Murphy as the film's composer.
Now, a major production update emerged from one of the movie's lead stars.
Chris Patt Confirms He's on Guardians 3 Set
Chris Pratt, who plays the MCU's Peter Quill aka Star-Lord, confirmed that filming for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has officially begun.
Pratt expressed his excitement about the start of production of the James Gunn-directed film MCU in the video, saying:
“What's up everybody, Chris Pratt here, I'm on the set of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. This is Day One, that's why these sick-ass mutton chops are back, pretty sweet. I'm very excited to be here...”
UPDATE: James Gunn recently took to Twitter to correct reports that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 had begun production, revealing “[they] haven't started shooting” yet, but they are “pretty close:”
“Despite stories to the contrary, we haven't started shooting #GotGVol3 yet (but we are pretty close).”
The director went on to explain Pratt being present on set for “rehearsing and doing camera tests” as “actual shooting is a while off:”
“Chris is on set, and we're rehearsing and doing camera tests and stuff — so it's his “first day” like it was my “first day” many months ago — but actual shooting is a while off.”
Production on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was previously reported to be set to begin in November. Unlike other upcoming Marvel projects, the sequel's production is seemingly on schedule, meaning these estimates likely remain accurate, especially with on-set rehearsals now being underway.

Chris Pratt Gears up for More Star-Lord
Pratt's latest confirmation is a promising update for MCU fans and for those eager to see more Guardians of the Galaxy content. The start of production also means that various set photos could emerge on social media as well, potentially revealing updated character designs and key plot points of the movie.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 director James Gunn has been consistent in providing updates about the film on social media, meaning that he could share more reveals as filming progresses in the coming months.
Based on the video, Pratt's Peter Quill appears to be sporting slightly evolved and cleaner mutton chops in the threequel while keeping the same mustache that he has had ever since Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
It's also worth pointing out that Thor: Love and Thunder's set photos have shown Pratt's MCU character with a full beard, suggesting that the Guardians' team leader will have a makeover before his third cosmic adventure with the rest of the squad.
It's possible that Quill could push for a makeover to prepare himself for his potential reunion with Zoe Saldana's Gamora. However, given that he is not aware that this Gamora is not from the main MCU Earth, this reunion could end up in heartbreak instead of being heartfelt.
The team's search for Gamora is expected to be one of the key plot points of the threequel, and it seems that Quill is poised to have a major arc once again in the movie.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will release in theaters on May 5, 2023.
