Marvel Studios is looking towards a couple of huge years in 2022 and 2023 both in theaters and on Disney+, largely with blockbuster team-up efforts in projects featuring multiple powerful MCU players. One of the biggest of these is 2023's The Marvels, Brie Larson's solo sequel to Captain Marvel that will see her join forces with Teyonah Parris' Monica Rambeau and Iman Vellani's Ms. Marvel.

While the movie is still just over a year away from releasing in theaters, The Marvels is making some impressive headway toward completion with filming having gone on since August 2021. Behind accomplished Hollywood director Nia DaCosta, Larson and the team have the chance to bring a truly epic MCU sequel into the mix four years after her original billion-dollar movie debuted.

With a movie this big, Marvel is looking to bring on some of Hollywood's top names to complete the behind-the-scenes work needed as well, particularly with a rising star in DaCosta at the helm. This continues in the music department, where Marvel is turning to a familiar face from Disney+ to bring The Marvels' orchestral workings to life.

Variety reported that composer Laura Karpman is set to write the musical score for 2023's The Marvels.

This marks the second MCU project for Karpman after first working on the music for 2021's What If...? on Disney+, and she takes over for Captain Marvel composer Pinar Toprak.

Marvel Finding Another Go-To Composer

As has been the case since the MCU really got going, it appears that Marvel Studios is setting a trend of going back to familiar collaborators with Phase 4 continuing to expand.

Fans have already seen the comic-book movie giant bring back iconic MCU composer Michael Giacchino for Thor: Love and Thunder after his work on Doctor Strange and all three Spider-Man movies. In the same vein, Henry Jackman wrote the music for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier following the last two Captain America movies, while Christophe Beck has WandaVision and the entire Ant-Man franchise on his composing resume.

Karpman first made an impression on Marvel with her work on the animated Disney+ series What If...?, and she exclusively confirmed with The Direct that she's set to come back for Season 2 as well. Now, she has an entirely new beast on her plate with a movie featuring three of the most powerful and exciting female heroes in the franchise.

Considering her task to develop a new and unique score for a project that paid tribute to nearly all 23 movies in the Infinity Saga in What If...?, Karpman should be well equipped to tackle The Marvels, which features heroes from both WandaVision and Ms. Marvel coming before it. With so much time before The Marvels releases, and with so much work already done, the musical master should have plenty of time to craft something spectacular.

The Marvels will debut in theaters on February 17, 2023.
