To say the lead-up to LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has been a long one would be an understatement-and-a-half. The title was first announced back at E3 2019 and has been in development at Traveller's Tales Games since early 2017. However, the wait will soon be over for fans (and developers of the project) as The Skywalker Saga launches in early April.
What will serve as a love letter to nearly 20 years of LEGO titles at TT, the studio's latest compiles the stories of Star Wars Episode I-IX in one brick-filled package. And as evident from various trailers and marketing material, this will not be any average LEGO game.
For The Skywalker Saga, TT Games has reinvented their LEGO formula, offering up a game with much larger worlds and a totally new gameplay experience. This marks the largest jump for the studio from one title to the next in the franchise's history, and one that will surely be welcomed by fans.
With mere weeks until the game's launch, fans of the upcoming LEGO title have compiled the ultimate look at the title.
The Ultimate LEGO Star Wars Experience
Reddit user AlexSkywalker4 compiled a mega-trailer for LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, combining every piece of footage seen thus far in chronological order to the films' stories.
The video is more than 12 minutes in length and offers a look at how some changes coming to the title will be implemented in the various plots of the films. This includes where numerous open-world sections will occur, as well as gameplay changes to sequences already seen in past LEGO Star Wars titles.
Building the Galaxy Brick by Brick
While this is all footage fans who have been keeping up with LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga have seen before, it is nice to finally have it in one nice, cohesive package - and one that seemingly predicts where various changes to the upcoming game will take place.
A couple of the more interesting inclusions in this fan trailer come from the title's various open-world settings where fans might get the chance to explore some environments more than others. This includes Luke taking in Tatooine before marching up to the front stoop of Jabba's Palace in Episode VI. Or Obi-Wain and Qui-Gon exploring Gungan City on Naboo about midway through The Phantom Menace.
For fans who have been with the LEGO Star Wars franchise since the first game back in 2005, these open-world sections are going to be some of the biggest new inclusions to the series. While before, gamers had made their way through a linear version of Mos Eisley and Coruscant, they now will be able to take a break from the happenings of these Star Wars epics and take in these worlds, participating in various side activities while they do so.
Another thing here that will catch longtime fans' eyes is just how different some of these familiar levels and sequences look.
Instead of participating in fairly simple space battles like the one above the forest moon of Endor in Return of the Jedi, this trailer gives some of the best in-context looks of how these epic battles will change in this new game. It looks to be something more akin to the push-and-pull troop depletion system of Star Wars Battlefront games rather than singly shooting a set number of five or six enemy ships flying around.
Gamers knew this was going to be the biggest LEGO game to date, but this video has really driven that point home. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga hits Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One Consoles, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC on April 5.
