Spider-Man is having quite the year thanks to the upcoming release of Spider-Man: No Way Home. While Tom Holland’s third Spider-Man movie is dominating the conversation right now one superhero film that cannot be forgotten is Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse 2, the sequel to the incredibly successful animated film from Sony Pictures.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was a game-changer, winning over both audience and critics with its unique animation style and earning an Oscar for its efforts. Spider-Man: No Way Home even seems to be taking a few cues from Into the Spider-Verse with the introduction of multiverse villains, and possibly a few extra Spider-Men.
A sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was confirmed by Sony before the first film had even been released, but news about the film has been pretty sparse. Now it seems fans won’t have to wait long for an update on Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2.
Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse 2 First Look Soon
One of the directors behind Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse 2, Kemp Powers, teased on Twitter that he will be showing “something cool” on Saturday, December 4:
“Y’all wanna see something cool?”
“I’ll show you tomorrow. Promise.”
While the director didn’t elaborate on what this cool thing might be, a post from Daniel RPK’s Patreon reported that the first look at Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2 would be coming on December 4, which aligns with Powers’ post.
Update: On Saturday, December 4, Into the Spider-Verse producer Christopher Miller posted a captionless tweet of a trailer with the Today Show logo on it, cryptically hinting at a trailer dropping that day.
The Wait For Spider-Verse 2 News Is Over
Fans have gone a long time without news on the animated Spider-Verse sequel. Into the Spider-Verse 2 producer, Amy Pascal, recently teased that Sony would have something to share on the film soon. As for what this “first look” could be, there are a number of possibilities.
The Spider-Verse sequel doesn’t even have an official title yet. Some rumours have pointed to the sequel being named Across The Spider-Verse, but perhaps the movie's real title will be announced with this first look. With a release date set for October 2022 and more than three years of work in the pipe, the timing does seem right for a teaser trailer for Into the Spider-Verse 2.
Hopefully, some updates on the plot and casting will be in store as well. So far it seems that Shameik Moore and Hailee Steinfeld will return for Into The Spider-Verse 2 as Miles Morales and Gwen Stacey respectively.
It was also reported that Issa Rae would be joining the film as the voice of Jessica Draw, aka Spider-Woman; it should be interesting to see how that character is involved, particularly with a live-action Spider-Woman film also moving forward in development. Regardless of what this first look shows, fans should know a lot more about Spider-Verse 2 very soon.
Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse 2 is scheduled for release on October 7, 2022.
