The untitled Spider-Man 3 film is still a long way away since the film has been delayed to November 2021 due to the pandemic. While there have been a few hints about when production may take place, nothing has been confirmed. Given the current situation of the world, it makes sense that details about the film have been scarce, with Tom Holland himself even unsure of when filming will resume.
Interestingly, an earlier rumor from insider Charles Murphy has bared that Marvel Studios is targeting September as the potential return date for production. It seems that the untitled Spider-Man 3 may be included in the long list of MCU properties returning to production during that time based on a new rumor from Murphy that has surfaced online.
RUMOR
In a feature article from Murphy's Multiverse, Murphy shared that he "recently heard rumblings about the production of Spider-Man 3 aiming for a late-September to early-October start date." Murphy also mentions that the production for Spider-Man 3 may have to begin before Holland is on set due to the actor's commitment to the Uncharted film.
WHAT THIS MEANS
While the world recovers from the pandemic, the entertainment industry gradually does as well. It has been revealed that some countries and states within the US are already publishing guidelines of the "new normal" when it comes to film and TV show productions. Last month, the United Kingdom's approval of high-end TV and film productions suggested that Marvel Studios' Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Ant-Man 3, and Moon Knight had the green light to resume production.
A late-September to early-October start date makes sense for Spider-Man 3 since it gives a lot of leeway for the production before the film's eventual release in November 2021. However, this doesn't discount the possibility of further delays moving forward due to the unpredictability of the current pandemic, with films such as the MCU's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings facing the eventuality of more delays due to stricter protocols.
With the plot of Spider-Man 3 being kept under wraps, the movie has a huge plot point to address due to the massive cliffhanger of Spider-Man: Far From Home's ending. The delays could give more time for the writers and Spider-Man 3 director Jon Watts to explore ideas about the overall outlook of the film, which could prove to be beneficial in the long run.
