The next film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings which introduces Shang-Chi, the Master of Kung Fu, to the world.
The film has been met with critical praise across the board, so it looks like Marvel Studios once again has another hit on its hands.
The character isn't all that well known and doesn't have many comics to his name. But Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is hoping to do what the team did with Guardians of the Galaxy, led by Chris Pratt's Star-Lord, and transform another obscure hero into a household name that can stand with the likes of Spider-Man and Iron Man. Given how the film has been received, it certainly seems that it is well on its way to doing just that.
The cast has been making the rounds doing press for the film, and one outlet had a fun question
GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY TEAM-UP
In talking with AP Entertainment while doing press for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, the cast of the film was asked which characters they'd like to team up with in the future.
Simu Liu knew pretty quickly, saying
"I gotta go with Guardians. I just feel like they would all just get along, ya know? I think Shaun and Katy love music, they love hanging out, they're goofballs in their own right, and I just think
that they would just vibe really well with Star-Lord. I feel like they would all meet each other and be like, 'yea, let's go to space together, why not?'"
Awkwafina wasn't quite so sure, but after some stumbling, she landed on saying
"Uh... Maybe...um...is uh... Iron Man? Or Ant-Man? Or Th—the Hulk! Uh... I don't know, I like Groot."
Simu Liu confirmed her love for the talking tree, finishing off the segment by saying
SHANG-CHI, A GUARDIAN OF THE GALAXY
The Guardians of the Galaxy aren't the only heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that Simu Liu would like to see his character team up with. The actor recently revealed he would love to see the comic storyline adapted where Spider-Man comes to Shang-Chi for some training and the two craft a brand-new fighting style.
While the film is still a week away from releasing to the world, up until this point, there haven't been any hints from Marvel as to where Shang-Chi may appear next. With all the mysticism at work, the likely answer would be in Doctor Strange's realm––though the Sorcerer Supreme has his hands a little full at the moment.
With Wong playing some sort of role in the film, there's a connection between the two worlds already established. Besides that, Shang-Chi seems to be entirely disconnected from the rest of what audiences know of the MCU, something that is refreshing and not normal these days.
While it's all likely to be more connected than fans think, they can find out for themselves when Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings comes out on September 3, 2021.
