When it comes to Lucasfilm's slate of Star Wars Disney+ projects, Obi-Wan Kenobi has always had the high ground. For years, Star Wars fans have been curious about the Jedi Master's years of exile between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope; and from what was shown in the series' first trailer, Obi-Wan Kenobi will be well worth the wait.
In addition to Ewan McGregor reprising his role as the prequel trilogy's Obi-Wan Kenobi, Hayden Christensen has returned to play Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader. Joining them is a young Luke Skywalker and several Jedi Hunting Inquisitors, including the formidable Grand Inquisitor, played by Rupert Friend.
Since the show's trailer first dropped in early March, and with its May 27 release date approaching, Star Wars fans have been wondering when they can expect a second trailer or a teaser ahead of its debut. And, now, it looks like fans finally have that answer.
New Obi-Wan Kenobi Footage on the Way?
According to MakingStarWars.net, fans can expect new and exciting Obi-Wan Kenobi footage "within a week" (between Thursday, April 21 to Wednesday, April 27) as marketing for the series is expected to ramp up ahead of the show's May 27 premiere.
It's also possible that this reveal could include official footage of the highly-anticipated rematch between Darth Vader and Kenobi.
The rumor didn't reveal if this footage was part of a new trailer, teaser, or featurette. However, it's worth noting that it's the first to follow the news that Obi-Wan Kenobi's premiere had been pushed from Wednesday, May 25 to Friday, May 27, where two episodes would be released on that day as opposed to one.
Even though a new wave of promotion ahead of Obi-Wan Kenobi's release was expected, Lucasfilm's marketing is a little less predictable than that of Marvel Studios. Also, since May 4 or Star Wars Day is approaching, it was questionable whether Star Wars would release anything ahead of that day.
While fans will have to wait and see if this rumor proves true, official footage of Vader and Kenobi's lightsaber duel would be a smart move on Lucasfilm's part. After all, the studio revealed this rematch would occur back in 2020; and since some footage of the duel has already leaked, revealing it now wouldn't be giving anything away but would still build anticipation.
This is the Footage You're Looking For
The real question is whether this new footage will tease any of the show's rumored cameos or more of its plot. From what has been shown so far, it's clear that Kenobi wasn't a total hermit during his tenure on Tatooine, and the time in which the show takes place allows for the Jedi Master to cross paths with some familiar characters.
Just how Lucasfilm will handle the show's promotion leading up to its debut will be interesting to see; and hopefully, this rumored new footage will be revealed sooner rather than later.
The first two episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi are set to debut on May 27 on Disney+.
