WARNING - This article contains spoilers from Eternals.
Marvel Studios' latest theatrical installment introduced ten new enhanced individuals into their vast cinematic universe. While some Eternals bit the dust, director Chloé Zhao left the door open for many of these ancient beings to continue their individual storylines in future films.
That next step remains a mystery for many of the Eternals, except for Lia McHugh's Sprite. The illusionist ended Eternals on her way to grade school as she embraced her transition into a mortal human being.
Before she went through the end of the world, Sprite was living alongside Gemma Chan's Sersi in London, England, meaning she was also linked to Sersi's boyfriend, Kit Harington's Dane Whitman. While Sprite and Whitman seemed to be friends solely due to their connections to Sersi, the two did appear to share detailed conversations about the Deviants off-screen.
Sprite and Whitman end Eternals living in the same city, but as was made evident by the post credits scene, Whitman is about to become part of a much bigger universe.
Sprite's Next MCU Steps
The Eternal Illusionist may find herself alongside a certain Black Knight in the future.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with The Direct's Liam Crowley, Eternals actress Lia McHugh addressed her potential future screen time with Kit Harington's Dane Whitman. McHugh emphasized that the two characters are linked from their common connection to Gemma Chan's Sersi, but noted that as long as Sersi and Whitman remain an item, she expects Sprite to be not too far behind.
"The thing that connected her to Dane Whitman and the story is the fact that her sort of sister, Sersi, is dating him. If that were to continue in this story, I guess she would still have some type of relationship with him."
Black Knight and Sprite Join Forces?
While the Eternals seem persistent in retaining their bonds, each hero seems to be on a different path moving forward.
Druig, Thena, and Makkari are seeking out others like themselves across the cosmos. Phastos is back as a family man, living happily with his husband and son. Sersi seems focused on her future with Whitman, even if a planet-sized Celestial gets in the way.
With half the roster ready to continue fighting and half embracing a quiet life, Sprite is someone that could teeter in either direction.
The Eternal Illusionist has become human, and even though she eagerly awaited the chance to grow up, she is already feeling the woes of being a kid. Similar to Tom Holland's Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Homecoming, Sprite could find herself itching to get out of class to flex her sorcery skills.
That's also assuming Sprite retains her powers. The ending of Eternals made it unclear whether Sprite gave up all aspects of her Eternal self, or if it was just her immortality.
Either way, Sprite being in close proximity to Whitman makes a team-up all the more likely. If Sprite is still a master magician, her skills would come in handy alongside the future Black Knight. If she is now powerless, Whitman could feel a responsibility to ensure her safety. Regardless of what happens, it looks like fans have only seen the first of these two on screen together.
