While the MCU rumor mill is focused on the upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home right now, soon it will again turn its gaze upon the projects further down the Marvel Studios' calendar.
One such project that has already had its fair share of speculation is Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. The pint-sized heroes' threequel looks like it is going to be anything but tiny, as it brings Jonathan Majors' Kang the Conqueror back into the fold after his debut in this summer's Loki.
There have been whispers-a-plenty in regard to the Paul Rudd-starring project; one such rumor suggested that comic legend Bill Murray would be joining the cast, which was later corroborated by the man himself.
Well, thanks to a recent interview, fans may have an update on Murray's involvement.
Just a Bill Murray-Sized Misunderstanding?
At the recent Ghostbusters: Afterlife premiere, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania star Paul Rudd spoke with Entertainment Tonight, via Twitter, about speculation suggesting Bill Murray would be hopping aboard the MCU train in the upcoming threequel. Rudd said that he'd "heard about this rumor" but thinks there may be some "cross-pollination" with fans instead thinking about Ghostbusters:
“Oh I’ve heard about this rumor, but it’s a rumor. I mean, I think maybe there was some cross-pollination, and they were thinking about [Ghostbusters].”
The reporter from EW went on to prod, inquiring if Murray were to show up in Quantumania who could he play, Rudd responded by exclaiming "Couldn’t he be anything?:"
“Couldn’t he be anything? The guy can do everything. My god, haven’t you seen his work with Wes Andersen?”
Paul Rudd Know's What He's Doing
Well, that confirms it - Bill Murray isn't in this Quantumania. Paul Rudd said so! Guess the internet rumor mongers can pack their bags and go home. Or not!
Rudd (aka the recently named 'Sexiest Man Alive') knows exactly what he is doing here. One can see he is hiding something. Just the way he says "Couldn’t he be anything?" with that signature smug look on his face.
He is a smart man, not revealing anything and playing coy here as he obviously wants to work in Hollywood again. However, he does leave fans with a wink and a nod, saying 'Hey, *wink wink* Bill is definitely not in this movie."
Or maybe perhaps Mr. Rudd is being totally honest here. It just seems like there is so much evidence to the contrary at this moment.
Fans may or may not see Bill Murray in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania when it hits theaters on its newly revealed release date July 28, 2023.
