Over the past four decades, Hollywood star Sharon Stone has built quite an impressive career on the big screen with over 100 credits to her name thus far. With an Academy Award nomination and a Golden Globe win for Best Actress for 1996's Casino, amongst other accolades, Stone continues finding herself in high-profile roles alongside the industry's top names.
Included in those top names are franchises like the DC Extended Universe, which is set to add various new names to its catalog of heroes in the coming years. One of those new heroes will come in 2023's Blue Beetle, the DCEU's first movie centered on a Latino hero - one that's never seen a big-screen adaptation until now.
Blue Beetle is already building an impressive cast of characters in its supporting cast, including legendary comedian George Lopez and Harvey Guillen from Taika Waititi's What We Do In The Shadows. Now, fans know who this movie's team of heroes will do battle with, as an Oscar-nominee in Stone takes on the leading villain duties.
DC's Blue Beetle Finds its Villain
The Wrap revealed that Sharon Stone is set to join Warner Bros.' Blue Beetle as the film's main villain.
Stone will play a brand-new character in the DCEU named Victoria Kord, who was specifically created for this story. She is possibly related to the original Blue Beetle from the comics, Ted Kord, although there are no confirmations of those ties yet.
Sharon Stone's New Role in the DCEU
This comes as Sharon Stone's first role in a superhero film, although she teased a few years back that she was in line for a role with Marvel as well. Now that she's officially joined the DC Extended Universe, anticipation is building to see what she can bring to a villainous role in front of Xolo Maridueña's Blue Beetle in this new solo film.
Stone's character, Victoria Kord, could be a number of different personalities from DC Comics even though this specific villain is a brand-new entry in the comic lore. While she may be related to the original Blue Beetle Ted Kord, it may also be a gender-bent version of Jarvis Kord as Blue Beetle's history is explored on-screen for the first time.
While more details on her part in the film will remain hidden for now, Stone's inclusion in the cast only helps add to the quality DC is trying to build with this hero as he appears in his first major Hollywood project. Her resume speaks for itself, and with the aforementioned supporting cast around her, Stone should have the opportunity to bring a thrilling new villain into the fold for DC.
Blue Beetle is slated for a theatrical release on August 18, 2023.
