Following the rocky reception to 2016's Suicide Squad , Warner Bros. announced a quasi-sequel in the form of The Suicide Squad , featuring a sort of retooling of the elements and characters from the original film. Helmed by MCU alum James Gunn (writer-director behind the Guardians of the Galaxy films), the little seen of the film seems to reflect his unique comedic styling.
While a trailer for the film has yet to be released, behind-the-scenes footage has emerged, as well as some concept art revealed during the DC FanDome event .
Warner Bros. recently announced that, along with the rest of its 2021 slate, The Suicide Squad will be heading to HBO Max on the same day as its theatrical release , August 6, 2021, offering audience members a chance to watch the film in a COVID-19 safe environment.
More information on the film is sure to come, especially now that a The Suicide Squad panel for the CCXP event has come and gone...
During a panel dedicated to The Suicide Squad , writer-director James Gunn, along with some cast members from the film, revealed a host of new images. These include set photos, concept art of characters in costume, and even new promotional images.
Below are the images that were shared at the event:

WHAT THIS MEANS
While we still don't have a trailer for The Suicide Squad , these newly released photos do shed a bit more light on the somewhat mysterious project, offering a look at several of the film's offbeat characters.
The photos, while not too telling, do give some of the best looks yet at a few of the characters, including a more comedic look at John Cena's brutal Peacemaker, the full Ratcatcher 2 costume, and Idris Elba in full Bloodsport getup.
Though fans may have been expecting a bit more from Warner Bros at CCXP's panel, this relatively minor tease hopefully means more substantial reveals, like a trailer, are not too far off.
