Avengers: Endgame Black Widow Death and Hawkeye

Avengers: Endgame was the culmination of what became known as The Infinity Saga, and in it were several defining moments for the Marvel Cinematic Universe moving forward. One of them was the death of original Avenger Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow.

Actress Scarlett Johansson brought the Russian spy to life in 2010's Iron Man 2, and from that point on, she established a distinct relationship with fellow original Avenger Clint Barton aka Hawkeye, played by Jeremy Renner.

The duo, both on and off the screen, had a resounding friendship, with the on-screen counterpart leading to Natasha sacrificing herself so that Clint could save the universe and reunite with his family. Since then, Johansson has starred in the Black Widow solo film, while Renner is gearing up to show the world a whole new side of his infamous archer in Disney+'s Hawkeye.

However, even though the two actors and their MCU characters are now on separate paths, one of them looked back on that aforementioned defining moment.

Black Widow & Hawkeye on Vormir in Endgame

MCU Hawkeye actor Jeremy Renner posted a Throwback Thursday photo on Instagram showing him and Black Widow actress Scarlett Johansson filming the Vormir sequence for 2019's Avengers: Endgame

Renner captioned the photo by saying he was "Looking back at this moment in time with scarjo !!! #tbt."

Renner & Johansson's Last MCU Moment Together?

This particular frame that Renner posted seems to be when Natasha and Clint realized their ultimate fate on Vormir: that one of them wouldn't be making it off it. It was at this point that audiences likely truly understood how far back and deep the friendship between the two characters was, with Black Widow shedding even more light on it by explaining the pair's infamous Budapest mission.

Likely, that was the last time fans would see Renner and Johansson together on screen. Their animated MCU selves did spend some time together recently in Marvel Studios' What If...?, however, Johansson did not return to voice Natasha.

Still, never say never when it comes to Marvel Studios. After the tumultuous ride that was the Black Widow legal battle, it appears as though Johansson hasn't completely said goodbye to the MCU yet. That being said, if she were to return, some sort of reunion with Renner's Clint is essentially inevitable.

It's also worth noting that, at the least, mention of Natasha should come in Disney+'s Hawkeye with Florence Pugh's Yelena Belova poised to exact revenge for her sister's death upon Clint

For the time being, fans and viewers can revisit Black Widow and Hawkeye's histories throughout the MCU both together and apart in The Infinity Saga and Phase 4 thus far.

Avengers: Endgame and Black Widow are available to stream now on Disney+. Hawkeye will debut its first two episodes on the streaming service on November 24, 2021.
