Back when Andrew Garfield was still playing Sony's Spider-Man and leading The Amazing Spider-Man franchise, the studio was cooking up a Sinister Six spin-off movie, written and directed by Daredevil creator Drew Goddard. The movie would have brought back Garfield as Spider-Man and set him on a collision course with some of his greatest foes, including Otto Octavius, aka Doc Ock.

Concept artist Victor J. Martinez revealed a new look at his work for Sony's canceled Sinister Six crossover event on Instagram, offering the first peek at Doctor Octopus' costume. Powered by four mechanical tentacles, Doc Ock was expected to lead the Sinister Six in Drew Goddard's script, which even had a theatrical release date set for November 11, 2016, before it was canceled.

Shang-Chi star Simu Liu landed a dry shade over Marvel Studios and Disney's decision to omit Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings in Disney+'s suggested watchlist for Avengers: Doomsday. It is standard practice for Marvel Studios to curate recommended viewing lists that highlight key Multiverse Saga titles ahead of major releases, helping audiences catch up without rewatching the entire MCU. The same approach is being used for Avengers: Doomsday, with a promotional page on Disney+ featuring a selection of "suggested" titles under the film's banner. 

In a post from Threads, Marvel Studios and Disney+'s suggested watchlist for Avengers: Doomsday was highlighted, and visible on that list are the likes of the following MCU projects: 

Notably absent, however, are both Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Deadpool & Wolverine, an omission that quickly drew attention online. This prompted Simu Liu to bluntly reply with "typical." 

Spider-Man: Brand New Day's post-credits decision officially makes MCU history by completely breaking a longstanding MCU tradition. Tom Holland's Spider-Man movies not only explored the compelling journey of the titular web-slinger but also expanded the franchise through major and minor set-ups in their post-credits scenes. Ever since 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming, every MCU Spider-Man film has featured at least one mid-credits stinger, often paired with a post-credits tag that teased villains, crossovers, identity reveals, or Multiversal chaos. 

Spider-Man: Brand New Day deliberately ends that streak. The film has no mid-credits scene after the trending main cast credits, marking the first time this has happened in an MCU Spider-Man movie. Those who stick around are rewarded only with a single, brief post-credits stinger placed at the absolute end, centered on Ned's Spidey Tracker app detecting a signal that zooms from New York into deep space and the promise that "Spider-Man will return."

Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 just received a new logo that reflects Season 2's cliffhanger. The Netflix revival has made history as Marvel Studios' first-ever annual-airing live-action Disney+ show, with Season 3 already wrapped filming for release next March just four months after its second bout concluded. Season 2 left many dangling threads to explore, including Matt Murdock heading to prison after revealing his identity to the world, Luke Cage returning to New York, Heather Glenn becoming Lady Muse, and Bullseye heading overseas with Mr. Charles.

Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 crew member Cory Candrilli took to Instagram to celebrate the Disney+ series wrapping production and revealed a perfect new logo ahead of its 2027 premiere. The logo depicts Man Without Fear behind three bars that are lined up as roman numerals (III) to represent Born Again's third season.

Marvel Studios has officially introduced its next major comic book hero in Sadie Sink's Jean Grey. After months of secrecy surrounding Sink's role, Spider-Man: Brand New Day's recent release has confirmed the Stranger Things star is indeed playing one of Marvel's most famous mutant heroes. However, the way in which Jean Grey is introduced in the film may feel familiar to MCU fans.

The superhero genre draws on many classic tropes surrounding its comic book heroes and villains, and Marvel Studios has not been afraid to utilize those when adapting these heroes to the screen. One common archetype in MCU films is to introduce a character initially as a villain or antihero, only for them to undergo a redemptive arc on their path to becoming a hero, or for their bad behavior to make them a favorite among fans.

This has become true once more in the MCU with Jean Grey's inclusion in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, where she was revealed to be the main villain of the movie, and the one responsible for mind-controlling people across New York, threatening their lives and causing trouble for Spider-Man. This was far from the expected arrival for Jean Grey in the MCU, who is traditionally known as one of the X-Men's foremost heroes. 

Marvel Studios released an official logo for an upcoming Avengers film that isn't Avengers: Doomsday, and it's for the sixth movie under the Avengers banner. Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Doomsday are the two behemoths of Marvel Studios' 2026 release schedule, and rightfully so, as the former has already crossed $1 billion at the worldwide box office and the latter will almost definitely make at least $1.5 billion, if not more. However, there is another release that will be sandwiched between the two and seems to be flying under the radar.

Marvel Studios had a strong presence at San Diego Comic-Con 2026 (SDCC), and during its Hall H panel, the production company announced several developments regarding the future of the MCU. Specifically, fans got a first look at the official logo for the Avengers: Endgame re-release, titled Endgame Encore, releasing in theaters on September 25. Marvel unveiled the logo within the first four minutes of its showcase, a design that keeps the classic Endgame font and name. However, the word "Encore" is below the Endgame name in the same font, just smaller.

A new set video from the filming of Spider-Man: Brand New Day proves that Jean Grey's actions in the movie weren't as evil and terrorizing as many fans initially thought. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is finally playing in theaters, and it seems as though there is hardly anyone who hasn't already seen it. The fourth solo Spidey film in the MCU already passed the $1 billion mark at the worldwide box office, and could very well become the highest-grossing Spider-Man movie of all time. While the movie is receiving a lot of praise from Marvel fans and general audiences, there are a few aspects that have been criticized, especially when it comes to Jean Grey.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day's main villain remained a mystery for a good portion of the film's runtime. It was established that the web-slinger was battling someone extremely powerful, but the person's identity wasn't fully confirmed until the middle of the movie. However, the villain turned out to be Sadie Sink's Jean Grey, who, in the comics, is an Omega-level Mutant. 

Obsession's breakout star Inde Navarrette has reportedly found her place in the MCU family as part of the upcoming X-Men reboot movie. Even amongst a year of major Hollywood blockbusters, the box office shocker has been Obsession, a low budget horror starring Inde Navarrette as Nikki Freeman and Michael Johnston as Bear. Johnston recently boarded the Marvel universe as a young Cable Summers in X-Men '97 Season 2 and many are eager to see Navarrette is anything and everything after her standout performance in Obsession.

According to a post on X from Marvel Comics writer and Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld, Inde Navarrette is "absolutely on board" for the MCU's X-Men reboot and speculated that fans will "find out next week" at D23 Expo:

"Heard today that Inde is absolutely on board with X-Men. Guess we will find out next week. Good luck and have fun."

Marvel Studios is going all-in on Sadie Sink's MCU character, unveiling the best look yet at the Spider-Man: Brand New Day actress. For months, the secrecy surrounding Sadie Sink's Marvel character in Tom Holland's fourth Spider-Man film has made headlines, sparking widespread speculation about her role. Marketing deliberately offered only oblique glimpses of her character, while Sink herself leaned into the mystery during the press tour, urging audiences to discover the truth in theaters. Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige noted that the decision was driven by a desire to deliver the strongest possible opening-weekend surprise, considering the character's larger significance within the Marvel universe.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day officially confirmed that Sadie Sink is the MCU's Jean Grey from Earth-616. Marvel Studios (via Variety) unveiled the best look yet at Sadie Sink's Jean Grey, showcasing the exact moment when the future member of the X-Men was revealed in the fourth Spider-Man film. 

Hulk’s son Skaar returned in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and director Destin Daniel Cretton confirmed the moment it happened. Skaar made his one and only MCU appearance in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law's October 2022 finale, when Mark Ruffalo’s Smart Hulk came home from Sakaar and introduced the young warrior to a stunned Walters family. Stargirl actor Wil Deusner played the part in a single, silent scene. Since then, many have hoped that the character would be part of the studio's goal of building toward the Young Avengers. However, reports suggest that the crossover event will be postponed until after Avengers: Secret Wars. With the prospects of that team-up delayed, no other Marvel Studios project has mentioned the character again.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day quietly broke that silence, though most people who watched the film missed it. Peter Parker spends part of the film seeking out Bruce Banner, who now teaches at Empire State University, while a wrist inhibitor keeps his gamma side suppressed. During those campus scenes, Banner keeps a photo of Skaar on his desk, and the image is a still pulled straight from She-Hulk.

Outside of one minor thing, Mike Colter's return to the MCU as Luke Cage could not have gone better for him. Following a lengthy eight-year absence, Colter reappeared in the Marvel Universe as the unbreakable Defenders hero in the final episode of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 on Disney+. While he did not get much screentime, his future looks brighter than ever after this milestone.

Luke Cage star Mike Colter previously shared what he hoped would happen with his character if and when he returned to the MCU. In a one-on-one interview with The Direct at Fan Expo Vancouver 2026, Colter noted that he would want to see Luke Cage learn about having power and control of the neighborhood and see if he "can do the right thing" while keeping "his hands from getting dirty:"

"I definitely would want to see him find out what it's like to have the power and complete control of the neighborhood and see if he can do the right thing and at the same time, keep his hands from getting dirty."

Avengers: Doomsday's official trailer made a splash when it was finally released online in mid-July, but fans still had a few criticisms regarding certain scenes. The fifth Avengers film is Marvel's first major superhero team-up movie of the Multiverse Saga, and it's set to pave the way for the culminating event in Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027. Yet, under six months out from its December 18 release, strikingly little is known about Avengers: Doomsday, and fans still have concerns after the first footage was released.

Marvel fans have been eager to see a glimpse of some of the 30+ returning cast members in Avengers: Doomsday, as well as Robert Downey Jr.'s appearance as a new character, Doctor Doom. After a series of short teaser trailers were released weekly in December 2024, Marvel Studios finally released an official trailer for Avengers: Doomsday online in July, ahead of San Diego Comic-Con (at which Marvel screened further exclusive Doomsday footage). 

This trailer, while still light on specific plot details, showcased much of the action to come in Avengers: Doomsday, as well as many of the Avengers in action. Nevertheless, Marvel fans have still had some nitpicks with the trailer.

Samara Weaving seemingly manifested her X-Men role long before Marvel Studios came calling, and an Emma Frost-inspired look from her own Instagram page proves it. The Australian actress will play Frost in the studio’s upcoming X-Men reboot, becoming the first performer attached to the film from Thunderbolts director Jake Schreier. Deadline first reported the casting on July 31, but Marvel Studios themselves have not officially confirmed it.

Photos Weaving posted on Instagram in October 2024 resurfaced once the casting news broke, and they now feel like an audition she taped almost two years early. The photos show the Ready or Not star dressed head to toe in white, a dead ringer for the character’s signature style. Celebrity stylist Jordan Dorso, who has long collaborated with Weaving, helped put the beautiful outfit together. The photos capture the actress posing on a sunlit balcony in an ensemble Emma Frost could have pulled straight from her own closet.

Fans received their first official look at Sony's cancelled The Amazing Spider-Man spin-off movie, Sinister Six. Long before Tom Holland's Spider-Man joined the MCU, while Sony crafted a Spideyless villain universe out of Venom, Morbius, Madame Web, and Kraven the Hunter on the side, the studio had a different vision for its own Marvel universe. The plan was to center everything in the same universe as Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker, with The Amazing Spider-Man 2 acting as a jumping-off point for new spin-offs that were ultimately cancelled due to the movie's critical failure and financial disappointment.

The spin-off that got furthest into development was Sinister Six, written and directed by Daredevil creator Drew Goddard, before it was abandoned alongside the rest of The Amazing Spider-Man Universe. Over a decade after Sinister Six was cancelled, concept artist Victor J. Martinez took to Instagram to reveal a sneak peek at his work on the cancelled spin-off, featuring Spider-Man and a shower of meteors crashing down upon a prehistoric location with a volcano.  

Marvel Studios has been carefully seeding mutants into the primary Earth-616 timeline, and one of them is a total game-changer after Spider-Man: Brand New Day. While alternate-universe Variants and legacy Fox X-Men have crossed over in Multiverse Saga projects like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Deadpool & Wolverine, the main 616 universe has quietly been home to beings with the X-gene for many years. 

The mutant reveal began with Kamala Khan's genetic mutation in Ms. Marvel, continued with Namor's explicit self-identification in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and has since expanded to include characters such as Mister Immortal, Doorman, and, most recently, Sadie Sink's Jean Grey in Brand New Day. These confirmations are steadily laying the groundwork for a full-blown Mutant Saga in the post-Avengers: Secret Wars landscape.

Tom Holland's Spider-Man suit in Spider-Man: Brand New Day changed the game for the web-slinger in his MCU solo movies. As Sony and Marvel continue to celebrate Spider-Man's movie legacy, Brand New Day became the second-fastest movie in history to reach $1 billion at the global box office (only trailing 2019's Avengers: Endgame). 

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the first solo Spider-Man movie in the MCU to feature Tom Holland's Peter Parker wearing only one Spider-Man costume throughout the entire film. 

This new costume is a Peter Parker original, using inspiration from Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's suits and mixing those designs with his own vision. That combination gave Peter arguably his best MCU suit to date, complete with raised black webbing and a more prominent spider-logo on the front and back.

Marvel Studios confirmed that one major MCU character is going to be gender-swapped in its next solo movie, marking a historic occasion considering the same character was already gender-swapped in the past. The MCU is full of heroic characters and superhero monikers/mantles, and no matter how powerful these individuals are, they can never last forever.

In some cases, Marvel Studios chooses someone of a different gender to replace them and take up the same title, such as Jane Foster taking on the moniker of The Mighty Thor. In some cases, a female version of the same character has stepped into the spotlight, which was the case of Sylvie, who originally was a Loki Variant. Now, one 2028 film is going to make history by building on that trend.

Marvel Studios confirmed at San Diego Comic-Con 2026 (SDCC) that Black Panther 3 will be released on December 15, 2028. Of every upcoming MCU movie, Black Panther 3 has most likely received the most rumors and speculation about what direction Marvel Studios will go in regarding its lead character and the Black Panther moniker, but Marvel has already confirmed which direction it will go with that.

Avengers: Doomsday broke a 26-year rule with one X-Men character, and the change hides in plain sight on his costume. Ian McKellen returns as Magneto in the upcoming Avengers movie, which brings his corner of the X-Men franchise into the MCU for the first time. The Russo Brothers' crossover pits heroes from three universes against Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, and the mutants who debuted under 20th Century Fox stand at the heart of that fight.

New Avengers: Doomsday character art surfaced online, showing Ian McKellen’s Magneto with an X-Men belt buckle at his waist. It marks the first time the actor’s Magneto ever wore the team’s symbol, dating back to his debut in the first X-Men film in 2000. The reveal caps a turn of events 26 years in the making. 

The art places the movie’s heroes inside individual display panels, and Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi appears among the characters pictured beside the Master of Magnetism. Magneto’s panel reveals his full costume. He wears his classic helmet and a red tunic, with a fur-trimmed cape draped over his shoulders. The design pulls straight from the comics, where Erik Lehnsherr’s red and purple color scheme defined the character for decades.

Sony's Spider-Man movies were unified in a series of new posters featuring Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, Tom Holland, and Miles Morales. Sony Pictures has been producing Spider-Man films since 2002, when Tobey Maguire debuted as the live-action web-slinger. In the years since, Sony has released 10 Spider-Man movies, including the most recent MCU blockbuster, Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

These Spider-Man installments have since been celebrated with a series of new posters that appeared on digital platforms such as Prime Video and the iTunes Store around the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day on July 31. The cover art for each of Sony's Spider-Man movies makes the films feel like a series rather than individual pieces, thanks to their similar poster designs.

All the new Spider-Man movie posters feature a similar structure. Each of the Spider-Man franchises has its own distinct color palette, with the main Spider-Man hero looming as the largest character in the poster, accompanied by their Spider-Man striking an action pose in the lower center. The posters are then filled out by floating heads of the other major characters in that film.

While Jean Grey's MCU powers were utilized almost to perfection in her debut, there may be one issue with them that could come back to the forefront in future Avengers movies. Spider-Man: Brand New Day took a massive step forward in storytelling for the MCU, introducing Earth-616's version of Jean Grey. While this sets up an exciting new chapter in the MCU's future after the next two Avengers movies, it may also raise a unique visual issue.
