While the year hasn't been completely devoid of new Star Wars content thanks to the likes of The Book of Boba Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi, things on the video game side of the franchise have been pretty sparse since Jedi Fallen Order and Star Wars Squadrons were released. Thankfully, that's all about to change with the imminent release of LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.
The LEGO Star Wars game already looks like it will be a treat for fans of both Star Wars and LEGO alike. All nine of the episodic films in the Star Wars saga are getting the LEGO treatment as well as planned DLC content featuring The Mandalorian, Solo: A Star Wars Story and more. Fans will be able to experience classic Star Wars moments as well, freely exploring classic locations like Coruscant in open-world style maps.
The upcoming LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga game has seen its fair share of delays, but fans will finally be able to get their hands on the game on April 5. Although, for those who don't want to wait that long, it seems a chunk of leaked gameplay footage has made its way online.
New LEGO Star Wars Gameplay Footage Leaks Online
In a surprise to many, over half an hour of gameplay footage from LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga appeared online on the morning of Friday, March 18.
TT Games, the company behind the new LEGO Star Wars game, quickly moved to take down the footage making it clear this was a leak and not intentional.
The leak seemed to show real in-game footage, with about 40 minutes from the Episode IV: A New Hope and Episode III: Revenge of the Sith chapters being shown. A look at the open-world maps, new cutscenes, and the in-game class system and HUD could be seen in close detail for the first time along with improvements to the game's graphics.
Fans online were also quick to point out that LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga seems to have recruited some of the voice talents from previous Star Wars stories like The Clone Wars.
LEGO Star Wars: Attack of The Leaks
With barely two weeks to go until LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga hits shelves, it's undoubtedly disappointing for fans who are hoping to avoid spoilers from this footage that made its way out into the wild. It was previously confirmed that a final pre-release trailer for the game would be coming out on March 24 at the Future Games Show, but it was never expected that this much gameplay would make its way online so soon.
The silver lining is that the response to the leaked footage online has seen positive reviews and The Skywalker Saga appears to be everything fans could want from a LEGO Star Wars game. The video game will provide players with an insane roster of over 400 different characters to choose from, which ranges from classics like Obi-Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker to obscure faces like Mama the Hutt. The open-world aspects of the game also allow a higher degree of freedom in a LEGO Star Wars title than has ever been seen before.
While some players now have more of an idea of what to expect from the leaked footage, given The Skywalker Saga's massive download size of almost 40GB, there's still plenty of the game that remains unseen.
LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga will be available on April 5.
