Gaming has been a staple of Star Wars for quite some time. From Knights of the Old Republic to Republic Commando, dozens of games based on the iconic worlds and characters have existed for years.
One of the most significant sets of experiences is the Battlefront games. The first two games in the series were released in 2004 and 2005 before more modern sequels arrived in 2015 and 2017–with some spin-offs/DLC here and there.
While the launch of the most recent Battlefront game was rocky at best, it went on to improve and ended up doing well. Sadly, however, support for the game is no longer.
So will fans ever see a proper Star Wars: Battlefront 3? It doesn’t look great.
Battling for Battlefront
In a new report from Venture Beat, it's been confirmed that recent Stat Wars: Battlefront developers DICE will not be making a sequel. Instead, EA games are handing off all of its Star Wars games to Respawn Entertainment, as previously reported.
While this doesn’t mean there won’t ever be another Battlefront, there most likely won’t be a new one anytime soon.
Battlefront Lost
This news is no doubt upsetting for many fans. It seems the Battlefront franchise has a curse when it comes to trying to attach the number three to one of their installments.
For the time being, other Star Wars gaming adventures get their moment to shine. Most recently, this includes a sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is coming up soon.
Then there are the newly announced mystery games from Respawn Entertainment that include a strategy game and first-person shooter. Maybe fans can get their spiritual successors to classic games like Republic Commando and Empire at War. This also includes rumors pointing toward a Mandalorian game in development.
There are more Star Wars games in development than ever before, whether Battlefront is part of that future or not. Needless to say, it’s an excellent time to be a fan.
