The pandemic has been a hard time for many around the world, and it has taken a toll on an endless number of industries; one of those being film. Releasing a movie into theaters is a scary prospect for many studios, which is why the controversial hybrid release became a popular alternative.
In fact, Black Widow took advantage of that release method—the results were mediocre at best. The after effects, however, were not so great, and have had ramifications on future projects. Prior to Shang-Chi's premiere, it wasn't known if the movie was going to make an exclusive theatrical release.
Not only did the film keep the release, but it performed better than anyone expected. In fact, it has resulted in many studios being more comfortable releasing their films in the messy theatrical environment that currently exists.
Since Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings didn't release on Disney+, when can fans expect to see it?
Shang-Chi Arrives in November
Via Deadline, Disney CEO Bob Chapek has revealed, during the Goldman Sachs 30th Annual Communacopia Conference, that both Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Jungle Cruise will be arriving on Disney+ on November 12.
November 12th also happens to be the big Disney+ Day, where new projects and news regarding the platform and its content will be revealed as noted by Chapek:
“We’ll be surprising people with offers and it will be an annual thing...We’re going to have new content release against one of our four key franchises.”
The Special Disney+ Release
It's interesting to see Disney choosing November 12 for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings as the day for it to debut on Disney+. Those 24 hours are already set to be filled with tons of reveals and new footage from future projects; it's hard not to think that the film will be overshadowed by all of the excitement.
It won't only be Marvel news that will be revealed either—brands like Star Wars and Pixar will all have their own projects to add to the mix. Shang-Chi has a lot to contend with, so it's a good thing the film is fantastic, and many people already love it.
Finally, people will have a place to go see if they weren't able to because of COVID lockdowns, or just feeling unsafe to venture out to a theater in general. It's no doubt that the film will perform well on the service, even if it might be initially overshadowed by all of the Disney+ day festivities.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is now playing exclusively in theaters around the world.
