Despite having a rough few years, for the first time in a long time, it feels like the future of DC movies is a bright one. The Batman was a hit, the DCEU is expanding with streaming content, and a supposed reset of the cinematic universe is coming with The Flash. However, it seems that the star of that very movie is putting all of this in jeopardy.
Ezra Miller has made headlines as of late after the actor was arrested for harassment in Hawaii. This paired with 2020 reports of Miller choking a woman in a bar have fans thinking twice about Warner Bros. rumored plans to put the fate of the DCEU on the actor's back.
The Flash is primed to set up a new era for DC movies (despite having only just been delayed), and Miller is at the forefront of that. However, their recent attraction to controversy may have WB thinking twice about their decision.
More Bad News for Ezra Miller
ET Canada reported that a Hawaiian couple has been granted a temporary restraining order against The Flash star Ezra Miller after the actor reportedly threatened to burn and kill the pair.
This comes shortly after Miller was arrested for harassment of the couple, with the filing of the restraining order coming shortly after.
A court hearing assessing the couple's temporary restraining order against Miller has been set for April 13.
This incident could seriously threaten the actor's career, specifically with Warner Bros, as the studio has previously taken severe action against stars who exhibited this sort of behavior.
The End of the Road for Ezra
Could this be it for Ezra Miller and their time at Warner Bros? That is the million-dollar question. As mentioned above, WB has a history of cutting ties with talent that gets tangled up in controversy, so why what would stop them from doing it again.
In both the worlds of DC and Harry Potter, the studio has had to distance itself from some pretty big names after reports of illegal activity came about.
The studio first dealt with this with Johnny Depp of the Fantastic Beasts franchise. After the actor was accused of abusing his ex-wife Amber Heard, WB removed the actor from Fantastic Beasts 3, cutting ties altogether.
Then Heard got tangled up in a public squabble of her own after it was revealed that she too had been abusing Depp. Warner has yet to annex Heard as of now, but they have distanced themselves greatly from the actress.
As for Miller, anything could happen. This is an actor that not only means a lot to Warner on the DC side, but he is deeply tied to their Fantastic Beasts franchise as well. If they were to give him the boot, it would result in a massive shift of strategy for the company going forward.
Yes, this take on the wizarding world is seemingly done with Crimes of Dumbledore, but it is not hard to see that the studio is setting Miller up to be the star of the DCEU going forward.
If they were to sever their connection with the actor, it would mean yet another complete reset of their DC plans. This is something that the studio seems to already be in the middle of for a completely different reason, only adding more issues to deal with.
