Square Enix's Marvel's Avengers didn't land quite the way Marvel probably wanted it to. At launch, the game was riddled with a number of bugs and content that was lacking in nearly all aspects.
A year later, Square Enix has been trying to course-correct ever so slowly. New events have been put into place, such as the Red Room Takeover and Tachyon Rifts, alongside new characters such as Kate Bishop and Hawkeye.
One thing the company is leaning into and is hoping to draw some attention to is its MCU-inspired cosmetics. Square Enix already released a handful of them, most being based on the characters' looks in Avengers Endgame with Thor's being a recent addition.
Square Enix did switch it up once by adding in Black Widow's snow outfit from her recently released film.
Now, the studio is looking to be doing it again by going all the way back to the first Avengers film for its latest costume addition.
AVENGERS WELCOMES NEW CAPTAIN AMERICA SUIT
Square Enix announced a brand-new Captain America cosmetic suit for its Avengers game, one that is directly inspired by Chris Evans' Cap uniform from 2012's The Avengers.
The outfit will be available to players in the game's marketplace on Tuesday, August 17, 2021.
MCU COSMETICS TO SAVE THE DAY
It's always exciting to be getting more quality cosmetics for the game, but at the end of the day, it's not what's going to save the day. The developers haven't shown all that much improvement in maintaining the game, leaving many fans frustrated and feeling ignored.
It seems that the company is dishing out all of these long-requested MCU costumes in hopes that they'll drown out any other failings of the game. That's likely not going to cut it. The real test will be its big expansion drop: War For Wakanda.
The expansion is set to be the biggest new content release since the Avengers game dropped back in September 2020. The new, free update will bring with it a large addition to the game's story campaign alongside a new playable hero in Black Panther, a new Enemy faction, additional regions to explore in the mythical city of Wakanda, and the game's first raid against none other than Ulysses Klaw.
Hopefully, the expansion will mark the beginning of a truly bright future for the game. If it doesn't, then it might not make it out of 2021.
Avengers fans can play War For Wakanda when it officially releases on Tuesday, August 17, 2021.
