Thor Ragnarok's costume designer returns for Love and Thunder

As both a character and a film franchise, Thor has undergone many changes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Beginning as a very Shakespearean epic, the Thor franchise transformed itself into a buddy-cop comedy romp. And The Mighty One himself is no different. Chris Hemsworth's Thor shifted from being an arrogant Asgardian heir to a fun-loving goofball, and while it may seem crazy, it clearly worked.

One of the more surprising films on the Phase 4 slate was that of Thor: Love and Thunder. Before this, no Marvel hero had ever had more than three standalone films in their respective franchise. But after Waititi delivered a box office and critical smash , there was no denying that he had only scratched the surface with where he could take the God of Thunder.

A familiar costume designer is bringing her talents back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Per iMDB Pro via Geeks Worldwide , Mayes C. Rubeo will costume design for Taika Waititi's Thor: Love and Thunder. Rubeo is no stranger to the MCU or Waititi, working with the Aussie director on his first MCU film, Thor: Ragnarok, as well as Waititi's Oscar-winning Jojo Rabbit.

WHAT THIS MEANS

Bringing Rubeo back for the fourth installment of the Thor franchise shows that Marvel Studios are committed to the God of Thunder's new tone. When Waititi took on the character with 2017's Thor: Ragnarok, fans were quick to notice numerous changes with their favorite Asgardian: he was witty and comical, his silver and dark red costume was traded in for some brown leather with turquoise shades, and his brooding grimace evolved into a lovable smile.

Despite this Thor being popular with fans and critics alike, some were concerned that all of Waititi's changes were being undone. After losing his hair, his hammer, and an eye in Ragnarok, he regained all he lost over the course of both Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Some feared this was Marvel undoing Waititi's work, but despite the phsycial changes, Thor kept his goofy persona (and took it even further) in Endgame.

Costume design obviously plays an integral role into constructing a film's vibe, and bringing Rubeo back for another Thor flick suggests that the tone fans grew to love in Ragnarok will continue into Love and Thunder .

The fourth installment of the Thor franchise is set to hit theaters on its new release date of February 18, 2022.
