LEGO and Star Wars have made some incredible pairings throughout their time together. From elaborately designed sets to small trinkets, there are plenty of options for fans of Star Wars.
Both brands have paired particularly well in the realm of video games as well, releasing several LEGO-themed games based on the blockbuster movie franchise. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is set to be the ultimate LEGO Star Wars game, featuring levels based on all nine films in the core series.
Fans, however, will have to wait a little longer for the ambitious next entry due to a recent delay.
A DELAY FOR THE NEXT LEGO STAR WARS ADVENTURE
LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has been delayed past its intended release window of Spring 2021. TT Games, the developer of the LEGO games, took to Twitter to announce the delay.
In the announcement, TT Games stated that they will "provide updated launch timing as soon as possible:"
"All of us at TT Games are working hard to make LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga the biggest and best-ever LEGO game - but we're going to need more time to do it. We won't be able to make our intended Spring release date, but will provide updated launch timing as soon as possible."
No further information about a new release date has been revealed. TT Games' announcement can be seen below:
THE YEAR OF DELAYS
LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is the latest in a series of 2021 video game delays. Both Gotham Knights , the third-person action game following the Batman family , and Hogwarts Legacy , the open-world Hogwarts game , were delayed until sometime next year. Delays are quite common in the video game industry, and it’s likely that development issues brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic played into these games' release changes.
Given the ambition of LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga , a delay will likely go a long way to smooth out the game’s mechanics. The game will encompass all nine films in the Skywalker Saga, creating a level of depth and sheer size fans haven’t yet encountered in a LEGO game. Delaying it for some added polish will undoubtedly result in a better experience for players.
Though the game was intended to flesh out the spring for the Star Wars brand, the season is not entirely devoid of content in a galaxy far, far away. Star Wars: The Bad Batch , an animated series based on a collection of "defective" clones from The Clone Wars , will premiere on Disney+ on May 4 . More High Republic books and comics are also on the way, with The High Republic: The Rising Storm releasing on June 29.
Despite being planned for a spring release, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga will surely give fans another opportunity to jump back into the Star Wars fever whenever it comes out.
