Now that The Mandalorian Season 2 has wrapped production there have been rumors flying around about who will be directing the second batch of episodes. The first season of the hit Disney+ series featured episodes directed by Deborah Chow ( Better Call Saul), Rick Famuyiwa ( Dope), Dave Filoni (Star Wars: The Clone Wars), Bryce Dallas Howard (Jurassic World) and Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok).
The Mandalorian debuted its first season in October 2019 and was an instant hit on Disney+ with 10 million subscribers to the platform on the first day. A second season was quickly put into production and is set to premiere this October.
REPORT
Rumours circulated earlier this year that Robert Rodriguez (Alita: Battle Angel) and James Mangold (Logan) were being hired to direct episodes of The Mandalorian Season 2. It's now been reported by /Film that Robert Rodriguez is set to direct at least one if not two episodes of the second season.
James Mangold previously scrapped rumors that he was involved with directing the second season.
Hey Ron. I'm so pleased if it's true about Bryce directing another part of Mandalorian, but I can tell you its not true about me. Not doing it, never discussed it. And I suggest fans should look at who's "reporting" this & make a note that these sites present conjecture as fact.
However, a statement from Rodriguez was never made regarding his involvement and it is now likely he will be announced as one of the directors attached for the highly anticipated second season.
WHAT THIS MEANS
Rodriguez and The Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau have had a long history together and Rodriguez even appeared as a guest on Favreau's Netflix cooking series The Chef Show . With a history of directing both indie and blockbuster film projects such as Desperado, Sin City and From Dusk Til Dawn , it will be interesting to see what Rodriguez will do with his episode(s) in the Star Wars universe . He's had a track record of creating epic CGI action sequences with Alita: Battle Angel so he's already well prepared for the innovative special effects technology used to shoot The Mandalorian.
Other directors confirmed for season 2 so far include Jon Favreau, cast member Carl Weathers and returning director Dave Filoni. Adding Rodriguez to this group makes for a very exciting lineup for season 2.
